The NISC III program within Leidos Civil Group is seeking an Air Traffic Control background to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Quality Control Group by reviewing, developing and overseeing the required processes involving aircraft accidents, aircraft incidents, air traffic evaluations, audits and air traffic safety initiatives. This includes coordinating with appropriate personnel following a significant aviation event; ensuring processes follow applicable FAA orders and instructions, and compliance with FAA Mandatory Occurrence Report (MOR) entries, External Compliance Verification (ECV) and Significant Events procedures. Candidate will be part of a rotating requirement for 24 hours "call-in" duty to respond to these events.

Significant emphasis will involve proactively identifying areas of concern involving operational safety of facilities, validating general safety expectations, and making recommendations for further action and involvement with field facilities involving safety processes. The candidate must utilize substantial initiative in identifying potential risks within the National Airspace System and providing recommended courses of action. The candidate will interact on a daily basis with senior FAA managers and peers on these topics and in discussions of air traffic events and activities. Other duties include compiling data on operational errors/deviations, aircraft accidents, pilot deviations, flight assists, spill-outs and incidents for a variety of audiences.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Previous designation as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC).
  • Typically requires a BA degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience OR a Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience OR equivalent practical experience as a Certified Professional Controller.
  • Strong writing skills that demonstrate the ability to communicate technical information of an aviation nature to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to analyze aircraft flight data and interpret compliance with standard Air Traffic Control procedures.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
