Job Description:

The Leidos Health group currently has an opening for a data architect/administrator to work in our Atlanta, GA office. Acts as the senior scientist who architects and implements data stores and a data lake for centralized housing of disparate data which supports various analytical applications and operational programs that support public health missions.

The architect has theoretical as well as applied knowledge in traditional relational database design and has a deep understanding of how to design, configure, and administer modern database systems and tools such as Hadoop, MongoDB, Spark, Hive, Pig, HDFS.  The ideal architect also has expertise in cloud-based database systems and technologies such as those on AWS and MS Azure.

Work closely with analysts, data stewards, project/program managers, product owners, and other IT teams to turn disparate data sources into a centralized data repository for use by multiple users and applications to serve various public health needs.  Collaborate with statisticians, machine learning and data science experts, business intelligence analysts, public health experts and other personnel to architect scalable solutions that support a variety of analytical and operational needs.

Primary Responsibilities

Plans and performs systems and networking engineering research, design development, and other assignments in conformance with system and network design, engineering, and customer specifications. Responsible for highly complex technical data engineering projects. Responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise data warehouses and distributed data processing platforms. Identifies procedures, processes and policies to encrypt and secure sensitive data in transit and at rest. Assists in migrating data from various data sources and collaborates on the development of Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL) Procedures. Perform complex database (SQL and NoSQL) queries and data integrity analysis. Works with program staff to design data storage solutions for structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data. Document data architecture and data warehouse environments and maintain/modify documentation as needed. Participates in setting data standards and works with program management and other technical staff to set data governance policies. Develops, communicates, supports, and monitors compliance with Data Modeling standards Evaluates currently implemented systems to determine their viability in terms of data architecture Provide expert consultancy and mentoring to formulate technical strategies and align them to both technology and business goals and objectives Provide hands-on technical leadership throughout software development lifecycle for composite applications (assist and/or lead requirements gathering, Proof of Concept (POC) development, RFP creation and evaluation, design, development, implementation and close out May perform other duties, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent and ten (10) years of general experience. A Bachelor’s degree and nine (9) years of general experience is equivalent to a Master’s degree or a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and fifteen (15) years of general experience is considered equivalent to a Master’s degree. With a Doctorate, eight (8) years of general experience is acceptable. 5+ years of experience architecting traditional database systems (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL) 3+ years of experience as a database architect for modern database systems such as Hadoop, Teradata, MongoDB, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, etc. 3+ years of experience as a database administrator (DBA) in SQL Server, Oracle, Hadoop, Teradata, or other modern database system. 3+ years of AWS or MS Azure solutions, especially the AWS GovCloud, the cloud computing environment for the federal government.

Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise data warehouses

5+ years of ETL experience in traditional database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle etc)

3+ years of experience with architecting/configuring Big Data warehousing solutions, such as Hadoop, Teradata, and experience with AWS data lakes ( S3 )
3+ years of experience in scripting languages such as Python, C++, C#

Experience with Business Intelligence Technologies and Dashboarding software such as PowerBI, Tableau, ElasticSearch, etc. or visualization software such as QuickSight.

3+ years of experience in NoSQL solution and managing unstructured data

Experience with statistical data analysis and use of data analysis tools (e.g. SAS, R, STATA)
