Job Description:

The Biological Life Sciences Operation of the Health Group is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to work in a non-laboratory setting. He or she will perform as a productive member of a team in supporting the process and program management for the All of Us Research Program North Bethesda, MD.

The All of Us Research Program (aka Precision Medicine Initiative Cohort Program) has launched a million-person 10+ year cohort study.  This tremendous undertaking is fast-moving, innovative, and ground-breaking. We need scientists with expertise in medical research, omics, under-represented populations, privacy, security, and/or policy who can help manage the internal operations of this large consortium.

The ideal candidate will apply scientific expertise to support the production efforts of various committees, teams, and task forces formed by the consortium to build out the Program’s clinical platform. You will work closely with NIH staff including program officers and senior staff in these efforts.  The ability to work collegially and efficiently in teams is very important.  Responsiveness, the ability to stay on task, as well as open and frequent coordination and discussions with a multidisciplinary and goal-oriented group, are inherent elements of the day-to-day operations. Excellent organizational skills is a must. Candidate must be capable of independent action and taking initiative. The program’s committees, teams, and task forces (i.e., the governance of the All of Us Research Program) are composed of awardees of the program, NIH, and participants that have joined the program.  Each governing body is focused on specific deliverables.  The candidate will work closely with the leadership of the governing bodies to support the operations and production of those deliverables including preparing meeting agendas and meeting materials in conjunction with NIH staff; attending the meetings which typically occur via WebEx; tracking meeting deliverables specific to each governing body; reviewing meeting summaries and following up on after action items from meetings; keeping the group on task; bringing forward new ideas from the group to the proper point of contact; and serving as a knowledgeable resource on program function to the groups.  If new governing bodies are formed or if additional expertise is required on current governing bodies, the candidate will identify members in the consortium that can fill that expertise and present recommendations to NIH for review.  This individual will be developing the charters and timelines for these groups then will be responsible for keeping the groups on task.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university appropriate to research is required, with minimally two years related experience in managing projects or tasks in a non-laboratory setting.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal-communication skills are required and experience in clinical research is essential.
  • Candidate must be able to interact in a positive and competent manner with individuals at all levels of responsibility, and willing to address a wide range of rapidly changing and divergent issues.
  • Candidate must be capable of applying and integrating knowledge from multiple sources toward solving problems of a research nature.
  • Candidate must be capable of working alone or with a technical team of researchers. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to set and meet goals are necessary.

DESIRED SKILLS: (1) Proficiency with Microsoft Office and (2) experience organizing virtual meetings (WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc).
