Leidos has an opening for an Software Engineer to support the International Space Station's Camera System. The GeoCam Space project is developing a flight hardware accessory for the handheld SLR cameras used for crew Earth photography on the International Space Station along with accompanying ground-based software to improve cataloging and geo-registration of these photos. The camera accessory will record pointing orientation and timing information for each photo. The ground software enables semi-automated full photo-to-map alignment and export of fully geo-registered digital map overlays.
The Intelligent Robotics Group (irg.arc.nasa.gov) conducts an aggressive program of robotics research and development. Research topics include on-board rover autonomy and resource management, planetary surface rover development, real-time computer vision based control of mobile robots and manipulators, human-robot interaction, and 3D terrain reconstruction and visualization. This research and development supports a wide variety of NASA enterprise customers through direct technology delivery, as well as through a program of field-testing of technologies in remote science analog environments and on the International Space Station.
The GeoCam Space project seeks a motivated software developer for the on-orbit software component running on the astronaut-handheld device. This software executes within a standard Linux environment to receive incoming camera and inertial measurement data, processes these into camera pose estimates for each Earth photograph, and generates formatted telemetry for downlink and processing back on the ground. This is a chance to write code that will actually launch to space, and further opportunity is available to contribute to other projects within the Intelligent Robotics Group.
