Job Description:

The NISC III program has an opening for an Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) Specialist supporting the FAA. The position will be located in Silver Spring, MD. The AIS Specialist provides support to the FAA Aeronautical Information Services Group (AJV-5). Primary support for this position will be to the National Flight Data Team. Provides technical expertise to FAA Aeronautical Information Services Group and Service Area Flight Procedures Teams via maintaining and revising both the AIRNAV and NASR databases. Duties will involve a wide range of functions: - Support the review, evaluation, and revision of current  data contained in both databases.  Determine the effect of proposed changes to procedures, fixes, and airport information such as altered or deactivated airports, NAVAID outages, etc. - Review aeronautical information released to confirm that air navigation information and technical data content is accurate and correct. - Initiate corrective action where discrepancies are discovered and coordinate as necessary with the Flight Procedures team, Flight Check, Air Traffic, Tech Ops, airports, and military organizations. If required, provide background information to FAA for the development of Notice to Airman (NOTAM). Other contacts include regional and field FAA offices, National Flight Data Center, military and airline representatives, state and local aviation officials, and aircraft and airport operators.

The candidate will have demonstrated experience in any of the following:

- Commercial Instrument Rated Pilot (Military or Civilian)

- Certified Instrument Flight Instructor Airspace and Procedures background
(Instrument Flight Procedures)

- Air Traffic Control Experience (FAA, Contractor or Military)

- A degree in an Aeronautics, Aviation, or Air Traffic Control career field.

- Previous experience with FAA or DoD terminal instrument procedures (TERPS).

A Bachelor’s degree with 8 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for determining qualification.
