The Mega 4 Litigation Support Team at Leidos currently supporting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has an opening for a Paralegal to work in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the U.S. Department of Justice achieve their mission.
Works under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager. Performs the following tasks while complying with established procedures: compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs, and other legal documents; summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery); indexes, tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial. Prepares exhibit cross-references. Assists attorneys in courtroom. Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria. Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.
*Complete understanding of legal process and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards.
*Must be a U.S. Citizen.
*Required s paralegal certificate. An equivalent level a legal training may be substituted.
*Ability to obtain a security clearance.
*At least one year of litigation paralegal experience
*Trial experience very helpful
*Automated litigation support experience valued
*Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal documents, Bluebooking experience
*Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
*Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
*Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, etc.
*Hands on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, imaging and telecommunications.
*Basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources
*Prior use of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
*Experience working in a government legal environment.
*Ability to consistently deliver highest quality of work under extreme pressure will be very important.
*Highly detail oriented individual.
*Active security clearance, preferred.
*Experience working in litigation databases such as Relativity
*Experience conducting legal financial records review and ability to summarize financial records.
*Familiarity with financial and tax terms.
