Leidos is seeking a Network Administration and Operations Intern to join the NetCom Team on the Automated Flight Service Station (AFSS) program.  The AFSS system is a 24/7/365 system that provides a range of flight services to 80,000 members of the General Aviation community. Position is located in Ashburn, VA. Candidate must be able to obtain an SF-85P Public Trust clearance from the FAA customer. Due to contract requirements, the positions requires U.S. Citizenship. 


The position requires strong technical skills in order to participate in a multi-skilled, complex, technical team of individuals performing Network Installation and Support to the production and LAB network infrastructure.  Excellent communication, team participation and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to be flexible and responsive in a fast paced environment are needed.

This position requires strong understanding of computer networking concepts and practical application of networking skills to assist in the implementation of new equipment and changes to existing AFSS Program deployed Cisco networking devices.  Candidate will be involved in all aspects of supporting the program computer room infrastructure, running and terminating cables, documenting changes, updating network diagrams, installing equipment in computer racks, and configuring network equipment.  Candidate should be prepared to support AFSS Maintenance windows that can occur 10:00pm to 6:00am Monday through Friday generally one day per week.

Candidate is expected to work effectively with other Team Members, coordinate with Team Leaders, and be accountable for assigned tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support ongoing Network Implementation activities
  • Assist in the documentation of implemented network device changes
  • Update existing network drawings with implemented changes
  • Support the development Network Change Requests
  • Assist AFSS NetCom Engineers with Trouble Report Resolution activities
  • Support the infrastructure changes with cable installation, equipment installation

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program in a relevant discipline.

Your GPA needs to be included on your application and resume.

US Citizenship Requirements

Candidate must be able to obtain an Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with current Network Equipment manufacturers (Cisco, Juniper, etc)
  • Command Line Interface configuration experience
  • Experience building and running network cables
  • Experience with MS Office (Excel Spreadsheets, Visio Drawings, Word Documents)
  • Understanding of general computer networking concepts and principles of Routing and Interconnections
