Job Description:

The Leidos Innovations Center currently has an opening for a computer vision engineer in Southern California to develop and test new signal processing techniques. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to support the design and development of new space sensing capabilities on a variety of programs. We are looking for candidates that have expertise in processing infrared data from space-based sensors in support of missile warning, missile defense, technical intelligence, battlespace awareness and civil/environmental.

Primary Responsibilities

The Computer Vision Engineer will define, implement and test end-to-end mission data processing algorithms to detect and track targets in infrared data. This includes understanding existing and new approaches for processing the data and working with the software development team to implement and demonstrate the performance of the algorithms against a wide range of conditions. Emphasis is in real-time algorithms that leverage advancements in computer vision for automated and autonomous operation. Knowledge of infrared phenomenology and tracking algorithms is important to supplement the primary tasks related to processing the mission data.

The successful candidate will interface with customers and understand their needs, communicating the requirements and timeline for their system plan. Being able to clearly communicate concepts using both written and oral methods is essential. Will work with a diverse team to ensure projects are completed effectively and efficiently.

Basic Qualifications

Requires BS degree and 12 plus years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10 plus years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain. Experience processing data from Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems or similar space-based sensors is required. Recent experience with innovative new processing techniques is also a must. Must have at least a Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI desired.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of military methods, tactics and systems is desired as they relate to operating and using space-based systems. Understanding of GPUs, FPGA and DSP processing concepts as well as understanding of electrical engineering is a highly desired skill. Practical knowledge of C++, JAVA, MATLAB and other programming languages a plus.
