Job Description:

The Electronic Warfare Division has an opening for a FPGA Engineer.

This is a technical engineering position to develop FPGA based devices to create experimental hardware and software to aid in the development of multi-function RF devices.  Work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world and provide valuable input to the development of new RF seeker and EW systems.   The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm.  The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.

The seekers team operates in a relaxed self-directed mode of operation where individuals are expected to work in small teams to solve challenging problems.  Leidos is seeking an early career individual with experience in working with FPGAs to work with AFRL/RWN personnel in the development of laboratory hardware to support future development needs which include antennas, RF front ends, and algorithms that can enable high speed strike missions to include target acquisition and providing terminal guidance information.  The team is also developing software defined RF Front Ends that provide multifunction radio capabilities for future weapons systems.  Candidates with exposure to these missions and experience to support these missions are needed.
Preferred candidates will have experience in programming FPGAs to produce RF transmit and receive devices.   Prior experience in RF seeker related algorithms such as Kalman filtering, beam sharpening, SAR image formation, etc. is desired.  To excel in this role, you will have prior experience with military radar systems.  Candidates with related and transferable skills will be considered.

Complexity:   Develop FPGA based innovative solutions for producing a laboratory experimental test bed.
Communication:  Will be working on a day to day basis in a lab with AFRL personnel. Must communicate with Leidos personnel and interact daily with customers, team members and end users.   Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them.   Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis. 
Knowledge:  Experience with the following disciplines is required: 
•    Experience in the acquisition of and programming of FPGAs.
•    Experience with the design and development of military radars.

Education:  Requires a BS and 2-4 years’ experience or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.   Candidates with more experience and/or a PhD may be considered at a higher level.
Clearance:  Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.  

Desired Knowledge
•    Prior experience in the design of FPGA based systems for RF seekers
•    Experience utilizing of RF simulation codes HFSS, CREATE-RF, or similar.
•    Prior experience in the design of airborne RF seekers, communications equipment, and/or EW systems
•    Prior experience in develop algorithms for RF seekers to include Kalman filtering, track loops, SAR image formation, beam sharpening.
•    Programming experience using Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C++
