Leidos is excited about our continued work with a Federal law enforcement agency. We are seeking a User Interface/User Experience Designer in Fairfax, VA, to support the development and maintenance of DoJ applications and infrastructure.  The UX/UI Designer must have the ability to work in an environment where creativity, adaptation to change is required and have good verbal and written communication skills.  The selected individual will have the creative freedom to design and modernize our legacy applications.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Represent the product vision by researching, envisaging, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing experiences for custom web applications.
  • Create and maintain wireframes and prototypes of appropriate fidelity to clearly and effectively articulate workflows and designs
  • Identify design inconsistencies or challenges and devise user-centered solutions while effectively balancing business needs, technical constraints, and project schedules.
  • Take a user-centric design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Work with subject matter experts and product owners and iterate in rapid cycles through UX options.
  • Stay current on web technology trends and innovations and share information with the team.
  • Work with project leads to define & estimate stories; participate in, and in some cases drive, design solution sessions.
  • Standardize the UX across IT applications and provide templates for development team use.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Take a user-centric design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Design new user interface components for a rewrite of a legacy system
  • Build and enhance web application navigation and graphics.
  • Create wire-frames, storyboards, mockups, process flows and/or prototypes to illustrate web application functionality.
  • Gather user interface design specifications from end-users and business analysts.
  • Test user interface functionality.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field. Additional years of experience can be substituted for degree.
  • 3+ years’ experience implementing and testing 508 compliance standards.
  • 5+ years’ experience/expert knowledge of web design standards.
  • 5+ years’ experience with HTML/CSS design.
  • 4+ years’ experience with version control systems such as MS Team Foundation Server (TFS) or Git.
  • Industry recognized UI/UX certifications.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript language.
  • Knowledge of graphic design tools.
  • Knowledge of user centered design principles and web usability standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an agile software development environment and agile processes
  • Experience working with government as a federal IT contractor
  • Experience working with architects  and developers to create micro-services and applications for consumption by the UX, and collaborating with the creative team to develop, and iterate over functionality
  • Understand of Node.js based tooling like NPM, ExpressJS, etc.
  • Understand of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience working with responsive web design
  • Experience working with reactive web design
