Job Description:

The Government Health and Safety Solutions Operation is seeking a Java Developer in the Windsor Mill area of Baltimore, MD.

The work for this position entails providing feature enhancements for an internally-developed release management application. The application is a web-based Java application built on the Struts 2 framework. The development is done on a Windows machine using Eclipse and a JBOSS server. The development includes writing the code that is required from front to back, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS for the UI, and Java on the server side, including JSPs, EJBs, and writing Dao/SQL statements for database interaction. In addition to implementing the required enhancements, the project requires significant use of JUnit tests to achieve code coverage. The project currently makes use of Jenkins to run the JUnit suite. Git is used for version control and the Eclipse eGit interface is the primary method of developer interaction with it.

The candidate will be required to implement the enhancements with minimal supervision. The typical effort takes on average approximately three weeks to complete, followed by multiple rounds of review and revision.

Duties include but not limited to:

Demonstrate hands-on experience with projects supporting Object Oriented principles and work independently.

Perform technical design, development, modification, and implementation of computer applications using existing technology platforms.

Analyze internal user needs and desired results and develop software solutions.

Develop applications using Java, JSP, Struts2, Javascript, HTML, Eclipse, and other technologies listed below.

Write, design, code, test, implement, and debug programs adhering to corporate requirements and standards.

Perform application testing and validation, programming, and documentation.

Develop software components, adhering to existing process guidelines.

Coordinate software installation and monitor implementation process.

Skills Requirement:


Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of related experience.

  • High Proficiency in Java, JSP, Junit, Struts 2
  • Proficiency in Git/eGit (Eclipse Plug-In), JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Eclipse, SQL, XML
  • Have excellent listening, note taking and writing skills,
  • Have strong presentation skills and being able to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals
  • Have effective communication skills including verbal, both speaking and comprehension, as well as written, which includes preparation and comprehension


  • Familiarity with Jenkins, JBOSS Wildfly, and Maven
