Job Description:

The Government Health and Safety Solutions Group is seeking a Storage Engineer to support a large healthcare program in Baltimore.

Must be able to follow industry best practices and have in-depth trouble shooting skills on a variety of storage platforms. Storage engineer will be expected to document the SAN environment and present documentation in a concise easy to understand format. Storage engineer will be expected to lead multiple projects simultaneously with little input and attend multiple meetings weekly to stay in control of projects. Storage engineer must proactively seek information pertaining to storage equipment and maintain its operational firmware and operating systems. Engineer will be expected to perform in a high paced environment and produce reporting on a variety of storage metrics on demand. Must understand the importance of storage inventory as it relates to application utilization. Must be able to implement an enterprise wide storage monitoring, reporting, and alerting application system.

Daily operational tasks include:

  • Plan and manage the provisioning of storage hardware.
  • Monitor entire storage enterprise from central tools such as EMC SRM and EMC SRS.
  • Maintain data entry for the SAN portion of the content management database / Service Now.
  • Experience with EMC Unity NAS and Block Storage.
  • Experience with EMC VMAX40K VMAX-3
  • Experience with SRM
  • Experience with Brocade SAN Switches.
  • EMC Symmetrix CLI (Solutions Enabler) and EMC Unisphere.
  • Experience in NetApp provisioning and snap mirror replication.
  • Proficient with daily tasks which include LUN mapping and masking, setting port flags.
  • Expert with EMC Timefinder, SRDF
  • Expert with BCV sync / split processes and RDF1 / RDF2 sync / split.
  • Proficient with opening service request with EMC.
  • Experience with preparation of disaster recovery documentation.
  • Ability to plan, manage and coordinate project as well as run activities
  • Experience to Incident management, configuration management and capacity Management.
  • Maintain Inventory of the complete SAN infrastructure and understand all aspects of maintenance agreements.
  • Maintain an N-1 firmware and software stare on all storage equipment.
  • Provide quarterly reports on the N-1 state of all SAN equipment.
  • Create and Maintain a Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Ensures change management / Service Now tickets are processed in a timely fashion.
  • Remain aware of all SAN related hardware and software maintenance agreements.
  • Collaborate with application developers and hosting teams on project initiatives including performance optimization and capacity management.
  • Provide knowledge transfers to other engineers as needed.
  • Provide feedback for new functionality, OS releases and product enhancements.
  • Proficient in the installation, configuration, monitoring of enterprise systems including backups, account management, performance management, and capacity planning
  • In depth knowledge of Storage Arrays and associated Storage Technologies
  • In depth knowledge of VMware ESXi Virtualization.
  • Lead in the development and testing of disaster recovery plans.
  • Identify opportunities for automation of standard activities.
  • Capture, analyzes and evaluates current systems and provides guidance on future technical developments.
  • Attend change and release management meetings to ensure communication of approved and planned changes.
  • 24x7 environment support including patch/upgrade support.
  • Familiarity with Databases (Oracle, SQL Server) technologies.
  • Perform ongoing operational activities, problem management, user assistance and training as necessary

Daily Administrative tasks include:

  • Attending multiple meetings weekly for project discussions.
  • Work closely with project managers to deliver projects on time.
  • Work with other functional areas as needed.  
  • Create and maintain technical and team documentation and workflow processes for storage environment.
  • Meet with vendors as needed to stay current with industry best practices.
  • Communicate with storage vendor engineers to create support cases forproblems and responds to automated alerts from SAN equipment.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience as a storage administrator.
  • Computer Science Degree - BA or equivalent. Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 10+ Years’ experience as a SAN administrator supporting complex mixed server environments.
  • EMC SAN Fabrics (Brocade).
  • Proficient with VMWare - VCenter 6.x
  • Experience with tier-1 storage EMC VMAX40K, VMAX all flash,
  • Experience with tier-2 storage - EMC UNITY, VNX, NETAPP,
  • Advanced knowledge with Brocade fiber channel switches.
  • Extensive knowledge with configuring IBM z series Mainframe storage on VMAX storage arrays.
  • Knowledge provisioning storage for the following operating system environments: Sun Solaris, UNIX, Linux, Windows and VMware.
  • Complete understanding of compression and deduplication technologies.
  • Scripting skills highly desired.
  • Analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Complete understanding of Client connectivity to SAN.
  • Complete understanding of Booting from SAN with EMULEX and QLogic HBAs.
  • System Virtualization is a must: VMware ESX, Solaris, zLinux.
  • Complete understanding of compression and deduplication technologies.
  • Analytical and trouble shooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Use of Visio, Microsoft Office suite of products and communication tools such as SKYPE, SLACK, and WebEx.
