Leidos has a career opportunity for a Director, Strategic Communications and Media Relations located in Reston VA.
The job of the Director, Strategic Communications and Media Relations is to provide expertise and leadership in overarching strategic communications and earned media relations tied to business strategy. This role will also advise on crisis and reputation management, oversee daily media relations activities and lead select enterprise communications projects and activities. S/he is responsible for oversight of the design and implementation of communication strategies that include: creating proactive campaigns to effectively position Leidos as a thought leader in core markets; helping develop crisis communications strategies as issues arise; and creating plans to proactively position and raise the profile of Leidos, its Chief Executive Officer, and leadership. The Director will report to the SVP, Director of Communications & Marketing and will have supervisory authority over several employees.
-Develop and cultivate relationships with key business leaders and architect plans tied to business objectives
- Maintain relationships with key members of the media
-Act as one of the company’s on-the-record spokespersons
- Lead strategic communications campaigns on behalf of the company
-Identify appropriate communication opportunities for the Executive Leadership team
-Serve as a trusted resource for the senior leadership team
-Develop messaging and talking points on key topics
-Facilitate media training and counsel to Leidos leadership and subject matter experts
-Organize outreach campaigns, press events, and other activities, including on digital platforms as appropriate
-Provide timely and accurate responses to media requests
-Work closely with all communications functions (marketing, digital, social, internal, corporate responsibility) to identify and develop opportunities to integrate effective strategies into collaborative communications campaigns
-Develop and maintain relationships with Leidos subject matter experts
-Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Communications, English or Journalism) and 12+ years overall work experience, or 19+ years of experience in lieu of education. Master’s degree (MBA or comparable) preferred.
-Work experience must include 10 years of corporate communications and/or marketing experience, specifically leading efforts tied to business strategy.
-Minimum of four years of managerial experience.
-Demonstrated expertise in advising senior executives.
-Excellent presentation, public speaking and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in the planning and execution of proactive communication campaigns for large, complex organizations that engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders.
-Knowledge of federal contracting.
