Job Description:

Leidos's Military & Veterans Health Solutions Group has an opening for a SQL Server Database Administrator – Mid Level on the DHMSM contract in Vienna, VA.

The DHMSM program provides modernization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) capabilities for the Department of Defense. The Leidos Partnership for Defense Health (LPDH) is seeking candidates for the systems engineering team to support a number of positions to define, implement, deploy and sustain new capabilities for the MHS GENESIS DoD EHR system.

Primary Responsibilities

Leidos is seeking a candidate to serve the DHMSM SQL Server Database Administrator.  The SQL Server will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of mission critical SQL Server RDBMS systems in Windows and virtual environments to ensure availability and consistent performance of databases. The selected individual must be able to efficiently implement Microsoft SQL Server High Availability technologies, investigate complex database issues and provide solutions in a dynamic, complex, production environment. He/she must have the ability to effectively interface with customers, system administrators, database team members, software developers, and senior-level management. He/she will be expected to learn and understand data models and data architecture documents. Other tasks include investigation of performance anomalies and performing root cause analysis for database and interfaces, applying service packs and cumulative updates, upgrading the database structure, as well as tasks in data conversion and other database-centric process improvements. This position also requires experience in supporting Oracle 12c/11g database on Linux.                       

Responsibility include:

  • Design, build, configuration, documentation, deployment and operational support for SQL Server High Availability solutions including security, back-up, logging, reporting and recovery procedures
  • Configuration, development and troubleshooting of stored procedures, SQL Agent jobs, and clustering of SQL Server databases
  • Develop installation process plans and settings for site specific work related to the installations database 
  • Work with testing and Help Desk teams to conduct testing of installed systems to ensure proper operation. Perform remedial maintenance and troubleshooting to bring inoperative systems back to an operational state.
  • Perform the integration of system and software as required
  • Continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, historical and real time database performance monitoring of the MS SQL Server environments  
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly database maintenance tasks
  • Tuning of database configuration for optimal system performance
  • Execute database backups and restore
  • Adhere to best practices and guidance for security of data in information systems according to DISA STIG

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizenship required-Must possess an active DoD public trust
  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of experience as a DBE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required
  • Proven skills and expertise in administering mission critical SQL Server databases in HA environments
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server platform supporting High Availability enterprise systems
  • Proficient in designing, developing, administering, and establishing clustering Microsoft SQL Server High Availability configurations including Windows Server Failover Clustering, Always-On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering Instances, and Disaster Recovery
  • Proficiency in developing complex stored procedures, user defined functions, database triggers, and SQL query tuning and optimization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to function within a large development team; interfacing, creating schedules, briefings, and status reports
  • Must be able to interact effectively with the team of engineers/developers AND customers
  • Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS on Linux including Oracle RAC architecture, and experience with Oracle 12c/11g installation, configuration, maintenance, quarterly patches install and Oracle 11g/12c upgrade
  • Technical knowledge of Korn shell/Perl Scripts and Oracle PL/SQL procedures/functions/packages
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification is a plus
