Leidos is seeking an Environmental Task Leader under the SERAS Contract that will support a team that provides Air Monitoring and Sampling at Hazardous Waste Sites, Environmental Emergency Responses, Vapor Intrusion sites and other events or sites to ensure public health and safety to US EPA’s Environmental Response Team (ERT). Environmental multimedia (liquid and solid) sampling is also possible using EPA, NIOSH, OSHA or ASTM methods. The Environmental Task Leader will lead small to medium sized projects independently. The candidate will be responsible for documenting all aspects of the work performed.
This work may be performed under one of the following authorities: Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Oil Pollution Act (OPA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP), Presidential Decision Directives (PDD) 39, 62, and 63, National Response Framework (NRF), Robert T. Stafford Natural Disaster Act, Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) and other legislative acts. Response support will be provided to all ten EPA regions ranging from emergency, time-critical Removal actions, Homeland Security/Incident of National Significance (INS) to non-time critical Removal and Remedial actions.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Be a part of a team that supports our US EPA client in two ways: equipment maintenance and on-site support.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate air monitoring and sampling equipment. These tasks may be performed daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or on an annual basis.
- Maintain records and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Operate and use air monitoring and sampling equipment during field events with potential hazardous materials exposure requiring higher Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) levels.
The Environmental Task Leader’s role will evolve into a task leader position for small to mid-size air response projects. The candidate may provide support for activities, may need to work on weekends or holidays for high profile projects and/or emergency responses. Some travel may be required with minimal advance notice.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in the Physical, Earth or Computer Sciences.
- 4-8 years of experience with environmental investigations.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to work in a Team atmosphere.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
- Must be capable of working under stressful conditions.
- Candidate will be required to obtain access to, and conduct work on, U.S. Government installations.
- Experience with real-time air monitoring instrumentation or air sampling equipment.
- Knowledge of EPA, NIOSH and/or OSHA air sampling methods and/or experience with real-time air monitoring instrumentation.
- Current 40 Hour Hazwoper training in conformance with 40 CFR 1910.120.
- Some project management experience.
- Experience with EPA liquid and solid sampling methods and procedures.
- Experience with small electronic equipment and repair.
- Familiarity with electrical concepts.
- Strong computer skills with ability to understand computer Networks.
- Knowledge of SCRIBE and/or VIPER is a plus.
