Leidos is seeking an Integration and Flight Test Lead located at Wright Patterson Air Force Base Ohio. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Air Force develop cutting edge technologies in support of emerging operational needs. In this role, you will support the United States Air Force programs with integration into a system integration laboratory (SIL) and on various air vehicle platforms. The ability to lead the development of test plans, procedures and reports will be required. The ability to understand and apply FAA, US Air Force, and other airworthiness requirements is essential to your success. Additionally, you’ll be required to be fully aware of USAF policy, instructions, including associated airworthiness bulletins used to conduct PAO and CAO aircraft assessments.
- Interact with USAF leaders by developing plans, procedures, reports and presentations.
- Responsible for coordinating and supporting ground and flight operations of contracted aircraft, pilots and support staff during flight test
- Determines and recommends levels of risk associated with R&D programs to leadership and management.
- Evaluates all projects and determines the level of safety review required.
- Review and analyze design solutions, support definition of test requirements, and suggest simulation and hardware test infrastructure to validate requirements
- Support and transition SIL test efforts to ground and flight testing to evaluate operational applicability of proposed systems/software architectures for unmanned autonomous systems
- Analyze SIL, ground and flight test results to guide modification of Air Force standards to achieve customer goals
- Reviews and inspects facilities, systems and hardware designs for adequate safety and health controls. Identifies and performs hazard analyses, and recommends controls to eliminate, reduce, and/or control hazards.
- Assist with system platforms security certification and accreditation activities.
- Prepare documents and review and evaluate engineering change proposals for adequacy in meeting Government performance, cost, and schedule requirements
- Perform technical studies directly related to integration, to include, but not limited to, analysis of alternatives, performance, effectiveness, cost reasonableness, reliability, maintainability, and supportability and assist with risk assessments and developing mitigation plans
- Assist with the acquisition program execution functions to include, but not limited to, design, development, testing, production, fielding, sustainment and modification of sensor and surrogate platform systems
- Perform technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities for complex total systems to support experimental and restricted classifications of flight testing for US Air Force research programs.
- Provides professional safety engineering and consultation services to project managers, engineers and scientists.
- Conduct Safety of flight and airworthiness analysis of both modified commercial and military aircraft
- Apply and meet FAA standards to review AFRL/Contractor collaborated designs
- Support development, review and evaluation of the plans, compliance to Federal and Military regulations, requirements and documentation
- Ensures the logical and systematic realization of operational requirements airworthiness objectives are turned into system solutions to meet program objectives (e.g. Flight releases, Type Certification, continued airworthiness, range testing operation and/or airspace integration)
- Support ground component and integration testing to support risk reduction in preparation for research flight tests and large scale flight exercises
- Support flight test events including evaluating and recommending corrective actions for operational deployment lessons learned, deficiencies, and opportunities
- Reviews and coordinates with other airworthiness engineers, and with other engineering disciplines, airworthiness artifacts from all levels of total system to include: design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other closely related field with a minimum of eight (8) plus years of experience working on DoD programs/projects
- Applicants must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
- Experience in simulation, laboratory and flight environments
- Experience with FAA - airworthiness requirements and Designated Engineering Representative coordination
- Experience with civil and military aircraft development or modifications
- Familiarity with sensor systems
- Must have current USAF airworthiness process and procedures knowledge, skills, and abilities to immediately integrate into the position with minimum transition time.
- Active Secret or higher clearance
- Understanding of military CONOPS
- Understanding of current Air Force unmanned systems and hardware components
- Understanding of flight worthiness for system components
- Design and Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Flight Technology, Crew Systems, Mission Payload Integration, and Flight Test
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification
- Experience with USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Airworthiness Bulletins (AWB) and familiarity of MIL-HDBK-516C, AWB 340, SEEK EAGLE processes, AFI 99-103, AFRLI 61-103, and AFTCI 62-602
