The Digital Media Forensics Team Support SME shall provide support for CI and CT investigations; research, design, deploy, and lead training events; evaluate emerging forensic technologies; provide operational security assessments and support cyber forensic and cyber security tasks. The analysts will combine computer science with forensic skills to recover information from computers and storage devices to recover data like documents, photos, and e-mails from computer hard drives and other data storage devices that have been deleted, damaged, or otherwise manipulated. The analyst uses forensic tools and investigative methods to find specific electronic data, including Internet use history, word processing documents, images, and other files. They use their technical skills to hunt for files and information that have been hidden, deleted or lost. They help officials analyze data and evaluate its relevance. The analyst may also use their expertise to protect computers from infiltration, determine how a computer was broken into, or recover lost files. The analyst creates detailed notes on processes undertaken and develops intelligence-based reporting. The analyst may also provide testing and evaluation of emerging trends in digital forensics software and hardware and assist in developing new and innovative forensic processes and procedures.
The contractor shall perform all phases of the forensic examination of digital media, including on-site and off-site evidence acquisition/seizures, forensic analysis, and reporting, ensuring chain of custody is maintained and that applicable rules of evidence are adhered to. The SME will oversee 3-4 analysts and are responsible for that aspect of their analytical role for the entire enterprise.
- 20 years of computer forensics experience with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.
- 2+ years of host based forensic experience
- DoD Certified Digital Forensic Examiner (DFE).
- A digital forensic certification, such as Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE), GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE), or EnCase Certified Examiner; and 2 years of mobile device forensics.
- Master’s degree in an area related to the labor category.
- Must have an active Top Secret/SCI
- Certification through the International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners (ISFCE) or the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) is preferred.
