The Defense Group at Leidos has a career opening for a Software Engineering Lead located virtually in the Ft. Meade, MD or Scott AFB, IL (St. Louis, MO) area. One must live within driving distance to either location as they will need to be in the office as needed.
This position will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of Software Defined Networking (SDN) projects from kickoff through sustainment for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). This position will lead a matrixed and virtual team of engineers to balance and maintain technical, cost, and schedule deliverables. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who will work independently to anticipate and address challenges in a fast-paced, remote-first environment to meet project objectives.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, technical and project management leadership tasks including:
•Project leadership of a team of Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Network Engineers and System Administrators
•Leading the execution of multiple, concurrent Agile software development projects to meet cost and schedule objectives
•Proactively and independently identifying, reporting, monitoring, and mitigating technical risks
•Developing project management plans for establishing technical, schedule and cost baselines
•Frequent communication and collaboration with other project leads to ensure successful completion of project objectives
•Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline and 8+ of related experience; additional related years of experience are accepted in lieu of a degree
•Prior Software Engineering Team Lead experience (managing day-to-day operations of a Software Engineering team), including experience leading an Agile software development team
•Full software lifecycle experience (design, development, test, deployment), including deployment to a production environment
•Strong communication skills that enable proactive and effective collaboration with a virtual team, including the ability to clearly articulate status and present to both customers and program leadership
•Ability to multi-task, self-assign work, and lead a geographically distributed team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
•Demonstrated leadership skills and attention to detail, including excellent organizational and documentation skills
•Experience working in a geographically dispersed environment
•Previous experience tracking projects in Jira or equivalent Agile Project Management software
•Currently possess an active Secret security clearance
•Software Defined Networking and/or Network Configuration experience
•Experience working with DISA customers
•Experience leading a software development project in a DoD environment, including meeting STIGs and RMF controls
•Hands-on full-SDLC Agile Software Development experience
•Formal Agile methodology certification (e.g. SCRUM)
•Experience developing software on a Linux platform (RHEL 7)
•Experience on software development projects that include Java programing, including SOAP and REST web services development
•PostgreSQL development experience
•Experience with distributed version control software such as Git, as well as experience with the automation of testing, builds and deployments
•Software requirements analysis and design documentation experience, including the creation of functional, technical, and architectural design artifacts as well as test cases and installation, deployment and configuration documentation
•Experience leading code, document and other artifact reviews
•Currently possess an active 8570 IAT II Certification
•Currently possess an active DoD SSBI or Top Secret security clearance
