The Systems Administrator will provide systems administration for the current VA VX130 systems and servers. Servers are predominately Clustered MS Windows Operating Systems (OS) including the related software such as InterSystems products including Cache and Ensemble. This position shall provide system administration support activities and troubleshooting efforts to ensure defined performance and includes immediate support for outages or incidents identified
Primary Responsibilities
1. Use automated TRM approved provisioning tools to support operating systems on virtual servers.
Use administrative tools such as Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) for monitoring and administering Windows servers. Configure system and file systems in accordance with SOPs. Configure Windows Clustering for High Availability, allocate resources to the appropriate roles to meet the application requirements. Configure and implement backup client software (Commvault). Add systems to our monitoring tools (SCOM and Solarwinds). Configure and implement SSL/TLS Certs for securing application Attach systems to a Storage Area Network, configure Multipath IO (Input/Output) Policy for redundancy and to optimize performance
2. Maintain existing operating systems.
Manage, install, upgrade, patch and configure Windows 2012 and 2016 systems including Patch OS on a monthly cycle. Administer Microsoft HYPER-V and Virtual Machine Manager and Docker containers. Review status of the cluster daily, check cluster events, Docker Containers Understand standard tools and services utilized in enterprise Windows environments to include Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SMB, RDP, WDS, and Group Policies Monitor and maintain adequate file system space for the operating system and application files. Monitor logs and system error logs. Remediate where skilled; elevate to more experienced administrators where necessary. Implement security hardening (STIG) requirements and configurations per VA instructions outlined in Service Requests and Change Orders.
3. Troubleshoot incidents and problems.
- Provide support 24 hours/day, seven days/week, 365 days/year, the coverage off business hours can be on call Participate in troubleshooting / fault isolation teams to determine problem or issue.
- To include familiarity with Mellanox NICs and network switches and software
- Correct OS related incidents and problems during coordinated maintenance windows based on instructions defined in ticket and maintenance plan.
4. Support general activities.
Perform work tasks as instructed within service requests, incident and/or problem tickets. Provide a Technical Guide on Windows Configurations and Topology Communicate to project managers, team members, other technical administrators and/or end users the status of work performed and findings with tickets, incidents, and problems.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience
- 6 years Systems Administration
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of HP hardware to include Proliant DL Series Servers, Blades and Blade Chassis hardware to make configuration changes and additions to hardware or firmware would be desired.
