The Airborne Sensors & Analytics division within the Defense Group has a dynamic opportunity for a Software Engineer, in a Lead role, located in Manassas, VA, in support of the Airborne Reconnaissance Low – Enhanced (ARL-E) program. ARL-E is a multi-year program supporting the U.S. Army with upgrading and enhancing the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities of their airborne reconnaissance fleet. The ARL-E team is geographically separated with primary duty locations of Aberdeen, MD and Manassas, VA.
As the Lead Software Engineer, you will use disciplined development approaches to deliver and sustain ARL-E software baselines and revisions. As a part of a multi-discipline team, you will develop and update program specific software, manage subcontractor software development efforts, integrate new/updated COTS/GOTS software into the baseline, perform system checkout, and support the Test & Evaluation team throughout contractor testing and system fielding. You will focus primarily on software baseline updates, quarterly patches, emergency patches, and bug fixes for ARL-E system software including Windows and Linux server VMs, operating in a virtual environment.
-Develop software release schedules which meet program objectives and present those schedules to leadership and the customer
-Effectively lead a geographically dispersed software team to achieve the program software delivery schedule and all deliverable requirements
-Coordinate with the IT team to effectively build and deploy new software baselines and revisions
-Plan, manage, and enforce equipment and software baseline standards
-Create and maintain documentation associated with support activities
-Provide support metrics and reporting to leadership
-Maintain subsystem performance during system test and checkout
-Troubleshooting to isolate system faults and perform repairs
-Assist leadership with planning schedules and ensuring proper personnel coverage for support activities
-Support the engineering team in the design, integration, and security posture of products; COTS, GOTS, Leidos Developed
-Support of Operator Ground Station (OGS), Tactical SIGINT Baseline (TSB), and Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) installs
-Manage and deploy annual and out of cycle software baseline updates
-Develop test plans that validate all software requirements
-Integrate, test, and troubleshoot software systems
-Develop and maintain engineering documentation and diagrams
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
-Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, and 8+ years of related work experience, or a Masters and 6+ years of related work experience; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
-Ability to obtain and maintain a CompTIA Security+ CE certification prior to, or within 90 days from date of start
-A DoD SECRET clearance is required to start. However, the ability to obtain and maintain a final Top Secret/SCI DoD level of clearance is required.
-Significant experience with virtualization including creation of VMs (Virtual Machines), building VM templates, and/or backing up VMs. Other systems administration experience may be substituted in lieu of virtualization experience, such as: Windows, Linux or experience with sensor systems
-The ability to obtain and maintain a Security+ certification prior to, or within 90 days from date of start.
-Expert working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
-Possess strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
-Must have the ability to identify innovative solutions to extremely complex, multi-faceted technical problems
-A minimum of 25% travel may be required to support activities at each of the primary duty location as well as CONUS test ranges.

-Experience with Agile or Waterfall development methodologies
