Job Description:

An opportunity has arisen within Leidos Innovations UK Ltd for a competent Application Platform Support Engineer to join our highly skilled team.

A team of Engineers will provide full lifecycle assistance to the SAT (Staging, Acceptance and Training) and Production Environments in addition to assisting 3rd party resolver groups with 2nd Line Support for their services.

Engineers will work alongside the Application, Security and Infrastructure Teams and will undertake environmental access and control, network monitoring and application configuration as well as routine audits and remote patching and upgrades across the Virtual Estate.

Engineers will support the day to day management, configuration and control of all environments, from SAT through to Production, ensuring they are tightly managed, aligned, and highly-available providing the best possible service available to support business processes, on a 24 x 7 shift rota basis.

The shifts will run 4 days on, 4 days off and alternate between days and nights.

This opportunity provides the engineer with an opportunity to work across a wide variety of technologies supporting a major public sector customer contract.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The Platform & Configuration Support Engineer will typically perform the following tasks as part of BAU operation:

  • Collaborate with both internal and external team members in addition to 3rd party resolver groups;
  • Support the operation of an Enterprise Service Bus, based on Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes and Production and SAT environments, running VMWare.
  • Assist in troubleshooting/remediation, and pro-active maintenance of all hardware, software and network elements that combine to deliver the platform;
  • Remote management, monitoring and configuration activities;
  • Engage in 24/7 Support of the clients Production and SAT environments;
  • Environment access control;
  • Configuration of the APM Monitoring solution (Check MK, Splunk and Tenable Nessus);
  • Management and updating of the anti-virus solution (Endpoint);
  • Assisting with quarterly patching of Linux VM’s using RedHat satellite and Ansible;
  • Disaster Recovery support;
  • Test and deploy of minor fixes, patches and upgrades;
  • Management of the jump hosts for remote access capability;
  • Security certificate renewals where required;
  • Log system administration.

Skills & Knowledge

Ideal applicants will need experience of working in large, complex virtual environments with a solid understanding of most of the following technologies:

  • Collaborate with both internal and external team members in addition to 3rd party resolver groups;

  • Knowledge of Cloud Technologies (Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services)
  • Scripting Skills (i.e. Python, Java)
