Leidos is looking for a top-notch Victim Witness Coordinator in support of one of our federal agency customers in Washington, DC.

Primary Responsibilities:

In general, the Victim Witness Coordinator will provide assistance to victims and witnesses of federal crimes while they are involved with the criminal justice system. In addition, they will assist attorneys and staff by assisting attorneys in their responsibilities for compliance with the CVRA and VRRA throughout the investigation and prosecution process. Overtime may be required. If so, prior approval of the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) would be required in accordance with contract procedures.

Specific duties may include any OR all of the following:

  • Work with attorney(s) in preparing legal documents, including victim-witness statements.
  • Perform complex legal research for the trial staff regarding victim-witness issues.
  • Assist in preparation of pleadings regarding victim issues.
  • Assist attorneys with notification of victims and witnesses, and issues of restitution to victims.
  • Provide victim notification of court proceedings and case and victim status.
  • Provide assistance to attorneys regarding victims services.
  • Preparing and completing victim impact statements.
  • Execute all necessary information on the Victim Notification System (VNS) Data Management System.
  • Assist with travel and lodging for out of town witnesses.
  • Support witnesses throughout court proceedings.
  • Assistance with restitution issues.
  • Department and law enforcement training support.
  • Support for stakeholder outreach.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills):

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • 1-2 years of experience in legal field on major litigation support projects.
  • Ability to examine, prepare and processes a variety of technical legal documents (i.e. complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, and subpoenas) which are characteristically voluminous and complex in format.
  • Ability to review incoming material and independently determines the need for assembly and preparation of a variety of legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, and subpoenas. Obtains needed information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources, and submits completed legal documents to the appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment.  
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires hands-on familiarity with the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, data processing environments, including office automation networks, PC-based databases and other applications, internet and server-based databases and other applications, (ex: Relativity, Oracle, Concordance, Summation, Trial Director, etc). 
  • Ability to perform legal research using Lexis and/or Westlaw.
  • Should be a knowledgeable user of the Government's office and network environment, including but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar applications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of common office hardware, including personal computers, electronic media duplicators, scanners, facsimile machines, photocopiers, multifunction printers, telephones and similar equipment.
  • Ability to work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff. 
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and work as a team player in a professional office. 
  • Demonstrated ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal documents.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, preferred.
  • Juris Doctorate or Paralegal Certificate, strongly preferred.
  • Experience assisting Victim Witness Program, strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating travel domestic and/or internationally.
  • Current or active clearance.
