Job Description:

Leidos currently has an opening for an experienced Java Front End Software Developer capable of supporting an enterprise level system for a Department of Veterans Affairs program. The candidate will participate in a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the sustainment and modernization of the EDI systems improving existing solutions and creating new solutions (Angular, Node.js, and Web Development). This position is 100% remote.

The Senior Software Developer will be capable of working with a high performing team in a DevOps environment. Candidate will be capable developing user interfaces for that are part of a large health care claims processing system. As a senior developer, the candidate should be able to perform development tasks and troubleshoot issues with minimal oversight. The candidate will support analysis, design, development, testing, debugging, deployment and documentation for new product features. The candidate may participate in stakeholder and product owner meetings to define software requirements. This position requires the candidate to be able to immediately integrate with the team and start work with minimal oversight.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The candidate will be responsible for the provision of software design and development services in support of maintenance, enhancements and modernization

  • Develop new user-facing features, ensuring technical feasibility

  • Maintain previous software application deployments

  • Optimize existing or new applications for speed and scalability

  • In an Agile framework, document, design, develop, test and integrate software functionality for various components

  • Play an active role in solving issues related to scalability and reliability for a highly scalable, high availability network management system

  • Perform high-level root cause analysis in support of service interruption recovery as well as creating and documenting preventive measures.

  • Work as a strong team contributor and providing technical expertise.

  • Identify performance issues and trends in operational systems.

  • Provide recommendations for process and configuration improvements.

  • Document system configurations and dependencies.

  • Work in Agile team environment with analysts, developers, testers, production support staff, stakeholders, and external vendor partners

  • Requires expert knowledge of and ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts

The candidate may:

  • Be involved in analyses and the investigation of related applications engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis, and recommendations.

  • Ensure the compliance of customer standards; also ensures that contractual deliverables assigned are reviewed for completeness and completed on time.

  • Work closely with other teams, support organizations, program and product management.

  • Interact with senior management and other engineers. Interaction normally involves matters between functional and technical areas.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering management or other engineering or technical discipline and minimum 5 years of software development experience. 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.

  • Must be able to obtain a NACI clearance or higher

  • Proven work experience as a Front-end Java developer

  • Solid experience and skills designing and implementing solutions in Java, JavaScript, Angular, Node.js, Spring and other web technologies

  • Working knowledge of Section 508 Compliance – knowledge and experience developing sites and capabilities in such a way to meet the Section 508 compliance requirements

  • Git, BitBucket, Jenkins automation experience

  • Must demonstrate the experience and ability to work without technical oversight and to lead and/or supervise a team of specialists.

  • Must possess superior oral and written communication skills in order to clearly and effectively convey issues and ideas to team members, management and customers

  • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, and Azure

  • Collaborator, self-starter, strategic providing input to technical design to meet project objectives

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and deliver results key milestones targets

  • Proven experience in developing and supporting large development initiatives that are similar in scope and complexity

  • Agile/Scrum experience

  • Proficient knowledge of MS applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio)

  • Develop solutions that integrate with mandated architectural standards

  • Program using industry standard methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the field of Healthcare Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry and/or HL7 messaging.

  • Understanding or experience of software development and integration processes in multiple environments

  • Experience in Agile Methodologies

  • Experience with Test Driven Development

  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

  • Active PIV Card
