Leidos is seeking a Tax Intern in Reston, VA.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Tax Intern will be a member of the Corporate Tax department.  This is a unique position allowing the candidate to have hands-on experience dealing with and defending tax positions for a $10 billion company.  The challenges primarily include income tax, problem solving, and negotiation.  The candidate’s primary role will be to track tax notices received from the IRS, state, and local jurisdictions as well as drafting responses to these notices. The candidate will also have the opportunity to assist in the IRS and state audit process by drafting responses to information requests.  In addition, the candidate will periodically have the opportunity to assist with the preparation of income tax returns and extensions.  The position requires attention to detail and exemplary organization skills. This is a year-round internship requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week.  The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Tracking and day-to-day management of federal, state, and local tax notices
-Making copies and developing support files
-Communicating verbally and in writing with representatives of various tax jurisdictions
-Drafting responses to income tax notices
-Analyzing data to support positions taken on the tax return
-Assisting with responses to IRS and state audit information requests
-Opportunity to assist other tax areas with compliance and special projects thus allowing exposure to other areas of tax
** This is a year-round internship requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
-Pursuing a Bachelor or Graduate degree program from an accredited university with a plan to major in Accounting, Finance, or Law with a clear interest/focus in taxation with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
-High School diploma and completion of the first 2 years of a Bachelor’s degree.
-Interest in pursuing a job in Tax.
-Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
-Strong work ethic and the ability to keep highly sensitive information confidential.
-Ability to effectively interact with co-workers of all levels.
-Ability to interact with other departments within the finance organization.
-U.S. Citizenship is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Strong verbal and writing skills.
-A general knowledge of income tax.
