Leidos is seeking a Geochemist to join our Workforce Development Program in Albany, OR. The Geochemist will explore ion exchangeable REE extraction to identify optimal process parameters for REE extraction and upscale ex-situ extraction experiments. Along with coordinate with researchers and assist with analytical processing and interpretation. The Geochemist will also execute ex-situ extraction experiments and batch and vertical heap-leaching experiments.
Complete initial larger scale ex-situ REE recovery tests of select cation exchange/ion exchangeable REEs with repeatability.
Execute large scale REE recovery tests with vertical tube system (5-15 kg vertical columns) with organic acid in select cation exchange/ion exchangeable REEs.
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and publications on the results of the study.
Period status reporting (weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually) is required to update project managers and customers.
The candidate will participate in group meetings. Group meetings are designed to allow the applicant to discuss current research and promote discussion with fellow researchers.
Bachelor’s degree in a science or science-related field (geochemistry) and less than one year of job-related experience.
Basic laboratory geochemistry bench skills.
Expertise in sample preparation and analysis.
Excellent communication skills and a willingness and interest to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team environment to drive towards overall project and team objectives is also required.
Master’s degree in science or science-related field (geochemistry).
TERM OF COMMITMENT: This research position is intended to be a term position, with varying levels of commitment that are not expected to last longer than 1 year. You will be informed prior to applying what length of commitment is anticipated. Also, those who successfully fill a term position, may be invited to apply for an additional term.
