We are seeking a Technology Transfer Concierge in Pittsburgh, PA. This work supports the Strategic Partnerships group under Science & Technology Strategic Plans & Programs at the National Energy Technology Lab (NETL). NETL is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory system and supports the mission to advance the energy security of the United States. NETL implements a broad spectrum of energy and environmental R&D programs that will return benefits for generations to come.

The position is directly related to NETL’s Technology Transfer work across NETL, but especially the Research and Innovation Center. Technology transfer is the process of transferring new technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace, transforming research into new products and companies so inventions benefit the greatest number of people as quickly and efficiently as possible. At NETL, researchers work every day to develop technology solutions to difficult problems. NETL Technology Transfer works with entrepreneurs, companies, universities and the public sector to move federally funded technologies to commercialization.

The Technology Transfer Concierge will be an on-demand resource for researchers navigating the invention, partnership, commercialization, and proposal processes, assisting researchers on the front and back ends of commercialization.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with identifying new inventions, creating invention disclosures, and preparing for presentation to the NETL Invention Review Board.

  • Assist researchers in navigating the research proposal process.

  • Assist researchers in navigating the agreement processes, including initiating licensing agreements and aiding in development of agreement initiation forms.

  • Provide general Technology Transfer and Proposals process trainings to researchers.

  • Conduct targeted outreach to researcher’s potentially needing assistance with the Technology Transfer and Proposals processes.

  • Hold regular office hours for researchers.

  • Self-promote and market Concierge services available to researchers.

  • Provide information to researchers about technology transfer opportunities.

  • Track and report weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics.

  • Provide customized reports to varying audiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, social sciences, STEM, or related field and five years of experience.

  • Master’s degree in business, social sciences, STEM, or related field and three years of experience.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • This position will require extensive interface with all levels of the federal client (NETL) and potential collaborative partners, so excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • The complexity of information to be managed will require excellent organization and documentation skills; attention to detail is a must; and an ability to troubleshoot, resolve administrative problems, and quickly respond to inquiries.
