Leidos is looking for early to mid-career level engineers with a Mechanical/Structures background to support our growing work in the Eglin office. This is a technical engineering position to develop models, perform numerical analysis, develop numerical tools, and support the design of high speed weapons systems. Work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world in the high profile area of hypersonic weapons systems.

Our engineers typically work directly with DOD personnel and regularly interact with contracting teams from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrup Grumman, etc. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.
Apply knowledge of materials, material science and ability to analyze structural performance towards the development of advanced high speed weapons systems. Combine multi-disciplinary knowledge of heat transfer, structures, and material science to solve challenging problems associated with these weapons. Support the adaptation of additive manufacturing tech parts by analyzing performance and the realization of new components through design activities. Develop and perform analysis on improved thermal protection systems and improve the state of the art modeling materials at elevated temperatures and pressures. Applicants with recent and relevant experience in lethality modeling as it pertains to high rate deformation of structures will also be considered.
Required Experience and Skills
Experience Level: Bachelors in Engineering in Mechanical, or similar and 2-3 years’ experience in industry or a MS in a relevant field. These candidates would be expected to be able to perform FEA, develop finite element models, etc. with minimal supervision. These candidates should also be able to grasp the big picture and make decisions about how to proceed with analysis with minimal supervision.
Communication Skills: Successful candidates should be able to effectively communicate with Leidos aerodynamics and structural engineers, and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.
Engineering Skills: Experience with one of the following disciplines is required:
Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Sierra Tool Suite)
Non linear structural modeling (LS-Dyna or other hydrocodes)
Operating on supercomputing clusters
Prior experience in system analysis and trade space analysis
Education: Engineering Degree plus 2-3 years’ experience in industry or a MS in a relevant field.
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.
Sierra Tool suite
Solidworks or similar CAD experience
Python Scripting, Object Oriented Programming
Experience with MATLAB
