    Key Capabilities:

    This position requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment

    The Payload Systems Engineer is responsible for preflight and real-time engineering support to Human Research Facility (HRF) rack operations on the International Space Station. PSE II responsibilities include pre-flight software load testing, verification, documentation, and implementation of the systems level engineering elements to support HRP Research Operations and Integration in-flight experiments. PSE's also assist in the preparation of the crew training facilities for training activities.  As a member of the increment console operations ground control team, the PSE is responsible for monitoring the health and status of all active onboard equipment, real-time software commanding to the Human Research Facility Rack, hardware and software anomaly resolution, and science data management.  The PSE acts as the engineering subject matter expert for pre-flight and post-flight operational analyses.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel

    • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures

    • Responsible for completing all assigned training

    • Support console operations in support of Human Life Sciences on-orbit operations

    • Pre-flight testing verification, documentation and implementation of software and processes

    • Preparation of training facilities

    • Performing the operations engineering liaison function to engineering and science groups to ensure on-orbit success

    • Writing test plans and commanding protocols

    • Developing or improving procedures and processes related to hardware and software use

    • Training crew members on HRF Racks

    • Acting as liaison to software, hardware and analog groups

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, preferably biomedical engineering, 3-5 years prior work experience in a professional environment or a master’s degree with 2-3 year’s experience in an aerospace environment.

    • Prior experience in an aerospace, flight control, or satellite operations environment

    • Proven leadership ability and success in teamwork

    • Self-starter; ability to take initiative and resolve issues

    • Familiarity with systems engineering principles

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with Human Research program operations goals

    • Familiarity with Human Research program science

    • Familiarity with JSC or MSFC spaceflight operations interfaces

    • Knowledge of console operations protocols and interfaces

    • Familiarity with life sciences NASA support operations, including console operations
