If you are an experienced, motivated and talented FPGA Design Engineer - we want to speak with you! Leidos' Security and Detection Engineering's team in Tewksbury, MA has an immediate need for an engineer with strong experience in high-speed analog/digital board and FPGA development, as well as some knowledge in embedded design; preferably in RF applications.

This critical role offers the excitement of developing custom solutions for products as a key technical team contributor, while participating in a small multi-disciplinary team working together on a variety of challenging projects.  Using bleeding edge technology, you’ll be developing truly novel solutions that make travel and trade safer, healthier, and more efficient on a global level. You will work in a fast-paced and diverse environment, enjoy flexible work arrangements, and will have a management team that encourages your career development and growth.

If selected, your expertise would be put to action in at least the following core expectations:

  • Working with multidisciplinary design teams throughout the development and new product introduction cycle from concept, design, and development to prototype, test verification, and documentation to production.

  • Taking responsibility for the architecture and development of the hardware and FPGA development. Our typical modules may include MMIC’s, Microcontrollers, Processors Modules and FPGA’s.

  • Assisting and collaborating in the design of digital and mixed signal board development.

  • Maintaining and augmenting existing designs.

  • Maintaining appropriate documentation in accordance with the Quality Management System of the company.

  • Participating in Design Engineering project status meetings, preparing written reports, analysis, and design review material in accordance with established development processes and procedures.

Required Education & Experience

BSEE or BSCE and at least 10 years of applicable, transferable and successful design work experience with most of the following:

  • Experience with developing mixed signals board and FPGA’s, circuit design and troubleshooting.

  • Experience in circuit design interfacing with RF Devices.

  • Experience with communication protocols I2C, SPI, 1-wire, Ethernet, USB, PCIe.

  • Knowledge in High Speed design (LVDS), ADC, DAC, LDO, switching regulator selection etc. 

  • Working experience using Schematic capture, layout, circuit analysis, and circuit simulation tools. (OrCAD, DxDesigner, Altium, LTSpice, Matlab, HyperLynx, PAD’s, etc.)

  • Hands-on experience using measurement equipment such as, signal generators, oscilloscopes etc. (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers is a plus)

  • Hands-on experience VHDL/Verilog design targeting Xilinx platforms

  • Working experience with optical interfaces are highly desirable. (SFP+)

  • Application of good writing skills in the preparation of appropriate specifications, engineering analyses reports, and technical documents using MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint/Project/Visio, etc.

  • Ability to Communicate and work effectively with internal design teams and external contract manufacturers.

  • Ability to work independently in an engineering results oriented development environment.

  • Good engineering analysis, problem solving, judgment, analytical capability, and follow-up. 

  • Ability to define and manage tradeoffs between cost, performance and other design parameters.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with script languages (Python) is plus

  • Understanding of EMC/EMI design principles is a plus.
