Leidos is seeking a Database / Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist that will serve as a member of the Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) assigned to the Project Planning and Integration (PP&I) Engineering team engaged in the implementation of asset tracking and infrastructure and services mapping at three (3) Antarctic stations including field camps. In addition, the Database/GIS Specialist will support long-range planning for existing mission support facilities located in the United States (i.e. Virginia, Colorado, and California), Chile and New Zealand. The mission support program is currently in the early stages of a planned 10 year upgrade program to transform one station, plus undertake planned projects to upgrade and sustain other existing stations, facilities, infrastructure and services at all locations of the program. The ASC program team is based in Centennial, Colorado and funded by the United States National Science Foundation (NSF).

Roles & Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare GIS site map documents for engineering as well as maps, data and figures for planning documents (strategic plan, station master plans, system plans) and also make modifications and updates to existing database, drawings and maps as needed to meet the overall mission, vision, goals, objectives and imperatives of NSF and ASC organizations.

  • Provide a database of all (engineering) records that is accessible and searchable, and tied to the MAXIMO database

  • Serve as database and GIS subject matter expert to internal teams, applying prior knowledge and experience in the following system areas – engineering, planning, information technology and communications, water / waste water utilities, electrical generation and utilities, facilities, aviation, marine vessels, science research, fleet, operations and logistics and community service functions (e.g. food and beverage service, recreation and leisure).

  • Provide database and GIS subject matter expertise upon request to the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernization for Science (AIMS) program team for McMurdo Station utilities and facilities upgrades and implementation strategies.

  • Support the development and updating of campus utility maps for the Stations on Antarctica.

  • Work with the document management staff and engineering staff in conducting an inventory of civil files in REVIT.

  • Perform task activities including preparing reports and slides that include text, tables and figures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a formal college education program in database management and/or geographic information systems.

  • Must have 2 years of total experience in database management and geographic information systems.

  • Must have 1 year of directly related experience in a similar organizational setting serving a federal or a state wide scale of focus, in a role with similar responsibilities from a combination of prior full time, part time and intern roles.

  • Qualified candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple teams and technical experts about engineering, surveying, planning, facility and utility design. 

  • Industry certification in GIS.

  • Experience using ESRI Arc Info GIS and Maximo programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint, MAXIMO software file hosting tools.

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.

  • U.S. Passport in active status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in data base management and geographic information systems.

  • Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary teams including engineering.

Physical Requirements:

  • Deployment will be required in this position. The individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

  • Individual must be capable of operating a standard desktop computer; must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

Position Expectations:

  • This is a full-time, exempt position located in Centennial, Colorado with possible periodic deployment up to 2 months.

  • Occasional travel to Virginia and Washington DC area for meetings.
