Leidos has an opening for an Electronics Technician Level III- ATC in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The designee shall be qualified to install, sustain, troubleshoot, and repair standard radio frequency wireless, line-of-sight, beyond line-of-sight, wideband, ground-based satellite, and encryption transmission devices, and to maintain air traffic control radio and voice communication switching systems at Kandahar, Afghanistan.  Included are multiple waveform systems operating across the spectrum, keying and signal devices; telemetry and instrumentation systems.  Assembles, connects, secures, and interconnects components such as transmitters, power supplies, and antenna assemblies.  Resolves installation, repair, and modification problems associated with communications equipment. Employs orbiting communication satellite, line-of-sight, and tropospheric scatter techniques.  Conducts tests to restore and maintain systems.  Typical duties include:  Performing preventive maintenance on ATC radio systems and related equipment; Inspecting equipment at specified intervals; replacing defective parts; performing operational checks; maintaining inspection and maintenance records; and Independently verify operational condition of Control Tower Facilities and integrated system to be within prescribed parameters IAW supporting Technical Orders/Manuals or directives. Support NDSatcom VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal), Rohde and Schwartz RF, IF, UHF and VHF radio equipment and a Garex ATC (Air Traffic Control) radio PBX interface over a meshed satellite network. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • The designee shall maintain systems are such as ATC radio systems, VSAT systems, and related equipment (CM-200 Ground to Air Radio, ETVS (BS2) Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch, Liberty Star Voice Switch, PL 2000 DT, and AN/TPN-19 radio equipment (GRC-171 and GRC 211), GRR-23/24, GRT 21/22, PRC-117, RT-1319, TRC-176, and URC-200), and on VSAT systems

  • Responsible for inspecting equipment at specified intervals; determining operational status; replacing defective components; performing operational checks; maintaining inspection and maintenance records; independently verifies operational condition of Control Tower Facilities and integrated system to be within prescribed parameters IAW supporting Technical Orders/Manuals or directive (commercial manuals, FAA Orders, etc.)

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires an active Department of Defense SECRET security clearance (selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information). 

  • Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics for communications systems or a minimum of four (4) years of experience in electronics repair, maintenance and testing of ATC Communications systems.. 

  • Requires a minimum of 4 years of practical experience with equipment the technician will maintain and oversee.

  • Must be a graduate of a high school or a trade school

  • NAVAIDS maintenance experience highly desired.
