The Defense Airborne Solutions Group currently has a dynamic opportunity for an Aviation Engineering Team Lead, located in Manassas, VA, to support the Airborne Reconnaissance Low – Enhanced (ARL-E) program. ARL-E is a multi-year program supporting the U.S. Army with upgrading and enhancing the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities of their airborne reconnaissance fleet. The ARL-E team is geographically separated with primary duty locations of Manassas, VA, Aberdeen, MD and Ft. Bliss, TX.  

In this role, you will use disciplined development approaches to design, deliver and sustain ARL-E mechanical, electrical, structural, and production baselines. As a technical leader of a multi-discipline team, you will develop and update program mechanical and electrical designs and processes; manage IPT and subcontractor development efforts; integrate new/updated COTS/GOTS into the baseline; support Engineering Change Proposals; and will be the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for the IPT. You will participate in the full lifecycle of the program assisting the Program Management Team and Chief Engineer on the program to ensure the on-time delivery of engineering efforts that meet program performance requirements.


Primary Responsibilities
-Develop system design and production schedules for mechanical, electrical, and structural functional areas which meet program objectives and present those schedules  to leadership and the customer
-Effectively lead a geographically dispersed multi-discipline team to achieve the program schedule and all deliverable requirements 
-Coordinate with subcontractor teams to effectively build and deploy new system baselines and revisions
-Interface with Government customers, external Government agencies support contractors, and team mates
-Plan, manage, and enforce ARL-E hardware, design, and process baseline standards
-Create and maintain documentation associated with the overall ARL-E Technical Data Package (TDP)
-Provide support metrics and reporting to leadership on drawings, installations, and AWR directives
-Ensure all mechanical and electrical designs, and installations, meet Airworthiness specifications for US Army and other Government agencies
-Troubleshooting issues and develop solutions to repair, replace, or create deviations following approved Airworthiness guidelines
-Assist leadership with planning schedules and ensuring proper personnel coverage for support activities
-Support design, development, integration, testing, and operational fielding of ARL-E to multiple aircraft and locations
-Develop engineering design and test plans to meet all system requirements
-Develop and maintain engineering documentation and diagrams

Basic Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

-Requires a related Bachelor’s of Science degree, and 8+ years of related work experience, or a Masters and 6+ years of related work experience; additional years of  experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
-A minimum of 3+ years’ experience with Aviation programs or Mission Equipment Payload (MEP) systems for manned or unmanned ISR platforms directly supporting  mechanical or electrical design and installation of MEP onto airborne platforms.
-Must have a DoD SECRET clearance to start, and be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET/SCI clearance. 
-Ability to mentor and lead a large technical team.
-Possess strong troubleshooting, problem solving, organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
-Knowledge and experience with lifecycle development of large system integration programs following DoD standards, experience with relevant quality control standards  such as AS9100.
-Experience with US Army Airworthiness Release (AWR) process, DCMA procedures, and Designated Engineering Representative (DER) process within FAA guidelines
-Must have the ability to identify innovative solutions to extremely complex, multi-faceted technical problems
-A minimum of 25% travel may be required to support activities at each of the primary duty location as well as CONUS test ranges.

-Related Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
-Previous Airborne ISR experience with installation of sensors or communications equipment
-Leadership roles on previous system, hardware integration programs 
-Experience with Earned Value Management or Project Management
