Job Description:

Do you have experience developing, deploying, and maintaining large scale applications using DevOps approaches?  Have you ever wanted to affect organizational change through efficient ways to delivery IT Services?  Can you describe articulate the benefits and latest trends with continuous delivery approaches in today’s modern software development organizations?  If you answered yes to each of these aforementioned questions, then Leidos wants you!

Leidos is looking for a passionate individual to lead an large, enterprise-scale customer through its DevOps/Agile adoption and transformation to NextGen capabilities.  In partnership with the Solutions Architect the Solutions Engineer (SE) will provide thought leadership and strategic direction across the program integrating multiple release trains to a common vision, mission and backlog - including creation of an architectural runway for the organization as a whole.  The SE will be the content authority integrating cross cutting technologies such as technical delivery patterns, industry leading tools that support enterprise initiatives (CI/CD, Agile development, low-high development, etc) and work horizontally across the entire organization to increase operational efficiency of mission applications.  Leveraging shared services they will integrate enabling technology in Monitoring, Security Engineering, and Agile Service Operations Management as well as driving new, innovative technologies to insert across the enterprise.  The solutions backlog will be coordinated with technical leads across the organization for detailed development and consumption by other teams.

The role is based from Reston, VA, requires intimate customer interaction to senior executives in the customer organization such as Directors and CIOs, close coordination with Leidos Program Management Office (PMO), and Technical Leads across the entire organization.  The individual will use combined experience with modern IT Service delivery approaches like software micro-services architecture, cloud-native services, Agile methods of delivery, and SecDevOps, to establish a common approach for all delivery teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Solutions Engineer - in close partnership with the solutions architect - leads the technical execution of a large, enterprise-scale software development, operations and maintenance contract.  The scope includes maintaining legacy systems while working with release train leadership to replace legacy with next generation technologies and systems in focus areas such as Big Data, AI/ML, information sharing, DevSecOps, identities and correlation technologies.  This individual will engage across Leidos' Technologies to horizontally integrate new technologies across the program to accelerate and drive mission delivery. The SDO will have frequent interface with high level customers and Leidos leadership to ensure mission requirements are being addressed and the contract is proactively anticipating future mission needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS STEM degree and 20+ years of experience or a Masters and 15+ years of experience working in an operational environment responsible for the development, O&M, as well as client support of large scale enterprise applications.
  • A minimum of five years of experience utilizing Agile software development methods.
  • A minimum of ten years of IT experience including at least five years of software-related DevOps experience.
  • A TS/SCI with a Poly clearance required.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with various DevOps tools (e.g., Jira, Maven, Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, GitHub, BitBucket, Docker, etc.).
  • Experience developing Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience building software or solutions using PHP, Bash, Perl, Ruby, Python, or similar programming languages and technology stacks.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Risk Management Framework and Security Accreditation process and activities
  • Experience solving difficult/complex problems and leading people through change.
  • Experience utilizing testing practices and frameworks including automated testing suites, unit testing, and end-to-end and user-acceptance testing.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)-Certified Solutions Architect or Developer, Associate or preferably Professional level.
  • Experience with one of the large cloud-computing infrastructure solutions similar to AWS or Elastic MapReduce.
  • Experience supporting highly distributed applications.
  • Experience working with programming languages such as Java, C++, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, Pig/Hive, and/or Elixir.
  • Experience with various DevOps tools (e.g., Jira, Maven, Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, GitHub, BitBucket, Docker, etc.).
