Description
Job Description:
The Electronic Warfare Division has an opening for a Lethality Analyst.
This is a technical engineering position to develop new tools and methodologies to assess the lethality and effectiveness of weapons systems for the US Air Force. Work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world and assure their lethality and survivability.
The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded and continuous learning is the norm. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach-Niceville area is home to world famous beaches and a relaxed ‘salt-life’ lifestyle.
Advance the state of the art in modeling weapons effectiveness by performing simulations of structural response to high speed impact/penetration and blast loading. Develop techniques to bring detailed physics modeling to the warfighter by creating fast running models. Work with actual blast test and arena test data to create improved models of warheads. Develop detailed models of adversary weapon systems to enable lethality assessments of present and future weapons systems.
Preferred candidates will have experience with LS-DYNA, Sierra, CTH, EPIC, or other equivalent codes (ABAQUS, ANSYS, etc.) To excel in this role, you will need to have a working knowledge of solid mechanics, material thermodynamics, and material constitutive modeling, plus blast test experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Complexity: Develop innovative solutions for lethality and survivability problems utilizing existing government analysis codes and new codes being developed. Couple multiple codes to provide end to end lethality analysis.
Communication: Must communicate with Leidos aerodynamics personnel and interact daily with customers, team members and end users. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.
Education: Requires a BS and 2-4 years’ experience or a Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineer, Structural or Material Science, or similar discipline.
Knowledge: Experience with one of the following disciplines is required:
• Experience utilizing of non-linear dynamic or thermal elastic analysis using at least one of the following: LS-DYNA, Sierra, CTH, EPIC, ABAQUS, ANSYS or similar.
• Background in material science, strength of materials, and constitutive modeling.
• Basic understanding of lethality tools such as AJEM, MEVA
Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.
Desired Knowledge
• Experience utilizing LS-DYNA or CTH on a program involving blast testing.
• Experience in the pre and post conduct and analysis of blast and/or arena tests
• Experience with design and analysis of conventional warheads.
• Familiarity with lethality simulation tools such as FATEPEN, PEELS, etc.
• Experience with lethality frameworks such as MEVA and AJEM
• Experience in structural vulnerability, survivability, hardening, lethality.
• Programming experience using Matlab, Python, Fortran, or C++
