Job Description:
Leidos, with Operations in Columbia, MD, is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join an existing team supporting a Department of Defense contract. The DevOps Engineer will be part of a cross-functional agile development team of other Engineers, Data Scientists and Researchers, and Analysts executing the development process to build and maintain an automated system for data discovery. The DevOps Engineer will lead design, implementation, and maintenance of the system infrastructure while contributing to the development of the overall system. The DevOps Engineer will be supported by the Program Manager and a Lead Software Engineer to perform the following standard duties
- Provide support for the design, procurement, installation, and configuration of development and operational IT environments
- Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems
- Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems
- Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, etc.
- Optimize system operations and resource utilization, and performs system capacity analysis and planning
- Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process
- Configures and manages UNIX/Linux and Windows operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoots, maintains integrity and configures network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance
- Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
- Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories
- Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components
- Write or review software and system documentation
- Perform quality control on team products
- Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces
Base Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience as a system administrator and/or software engineer OR Masters’ 6 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field can be substituted for four (4) years of experience
CLEARANCE REQUIRED to start: Active TSSCI with Polygraph.
*Will sponsor upgraded clearance for strong candidates with current/active Top Secret clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
**US Citizenship Required.
Required Skills:
- Systems Administration experience working with Windows, UNIX, Linux, virtualization, Docker / containers, orchestration, and cm/scripting technologies
- Experience working in agile or DevOps teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss their requirements and objectives
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
Desired Skills:
- Proficiency with Python, Java Script, Express, Angular 2+, REST/JAX/Soap Web Services, HTML5, PostgreSQL and Unix/Linux
- Expertise in architecting and designing solutions for complex software development projects, accounting for scalability, flexibility, performance, and security
- Experience making hardware design and procurement decisions accounting for cost, power, space, cooling, and capability constraints
- Experience executing technical and logistical requirements including equipment installation and mounting, cabling, and physical configuration
- Experience performing development and configuring instance implementations within AWS or other commercial cloud environments
- Ability to perform independent research and offer approaches to solving complex problems involving technology, process automation, and policy implementations
- Experience working with geographically distributed development teams
