The Defense Group at Leidos currently has a dynamic job opportunity for a junior level Aviation Integration Engineer located at our Beavercreek Ohio, Pentagon Blvd. office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping Leidos support the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Sensors Directorate by developing cutting edge technologies in support of emerging operational needs.
In this role, you will support a variety of programs for the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, to include system development and integration activities addressing fast paced aircraft development and integration requirements for the USAF.
Primary Responsibilities
•Learn, understand and apply FAA, US Air Force, and other airworthiness requirements in support of airworthiness efforts for airborne pods and sensor systems including researching and creating airworthiness artifacts IAW MIL-STD-516C.
•Perform, document and present technical studies, data and research pertaining to airborne sensors, sensor systems and support equipment to USG and other Leidos customers.
•Perform electrical design work to create drawings and bills of material for cabling and interfaces to support flight testing of sensors and support components.
•Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings to support item fabrication, troubleshoot and repair and work with technicians for build and assembly of cabling and interface devices.
•Create briefing presentations of technical data and concepts for presentation to USG and other customers
•Participate in review and analyze design solutions, support definition of test requirements
•Support flight test events at WPAFB and other locations
•Work with other engineers, and with other engineering disciplines to create airworthiness artifacts for, design, fabricate, test, install, operate, and maintain airborne electronic systems.
•Prepare documents engineering change proposals.
•Perform technical studies directly related to system design and airworthiness, to include, but not limited to, performance, effectiveness, cost reasonableness, reliability, maintainability, and supportability and assist with risk assessments and developing mitigation plans
•Assist with program execution functions to include, but not limited to, design, development, testing, production, fielding, sustainment and modification of sensor and platform systems
Basic Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.
•Requires related Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience required in lieu of a degree.
•A DoD clearance is not required to start; a final Secret is required
•Experience working on DoD programs/projects
•Familiarity with imaging and electronic processing systems
•Proficient with use of basic mechanical hand tools such as wrenches, sockets, drill and cutting tools
•Proficient with use of basic electronic test equipment such as DVM, Oscilloscope, power supplies and signal generators
•Proficient with use of PC and MS Office tools including MS Office and MS PowerPoint.
•Familiarity with aircraft operations
•25% CONUS and possibly OCONUS travel required
•Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather, and/or austere locations
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration
•Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
•A current DoD clearance
•Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
•Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification
•Design and Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Avionics, Flight Technology, Crew Systems, Mission Payload Integration, and Flight Test
•Experience, or hobbyist, in aviation, automotive repairs, or home construction
