Job Description

Leidos is looking for an experienced and successful technical editor and document manager.  Collaborating with a dedicated and talented team you would assist with the research, writing, and publication of National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) reports and annexes in response to congressional requirements related to Defense Programs and the nuclear security enterprise. Most importantly, you would serve as Editor in Chief for the annual Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (SSMP). 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Providing drafts and intensive edits to large long-term planning documents (e.g., the Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan [SSMP]).

  • Communicating complex and controversial concepts for supporting program and budget planning, programming, and execution (e.g., budget justifications, capital acquisition planning, infrastructure planning, etc.).

  • Serving as subject matter expert advisor to the Federal Program Manager and staff to resolve emerging issues and problems and to assist with messaging.

  • Assessing impact, dependencies and trends on major programs and developing recommendations for improvements or revisions.

  • Providing technical and policy review of staff responses to short notice inquiries from within NNSA, the Secretary of Energy, and other senior Departmental officials.

  • Assisting Federal Program Manager(s) with implementing solutions, processes, and policies.

  • Advising Federal staff to ensure that technical plans and solutions are proceeding on schedule and that deliverables conform to customer requirements, quality control standards and negotiated metrics.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of related technical experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Active DOE Q or DoD TS clearance.

  • Extensive experience with Government agencies such as DoD, DTRA, or other military/civilian organizations. 

  • Broad understanding of nuclear weapons system sustainment, acquisition programs, and infrastructure programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate programmatic and technical information related to nuclear weapons programs and the NNSA infrastructure. 

  • Superior writing and editing skills, including the ability to express technical concepts, processes, programs, and capabilities clearly and concisely for audiences at a variety of technical understanding levels. 

  • Demonstrated experience in developing large planning documents, briefings, white papers, and analysis for senior and executive managers.

  • Thorough command of English grammar and syntax with and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team of technical professionals, writers, and editors.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience interacting with and preparing senior and executive managers for high-level interactions within and between agencies.

  • Ability to confidently interact with senior management of stakeholder organizations.
