Job Description:

At Leidos we build Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for cutting-edge autonomous vehicles for a wide variety of customers including the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Skyborg program. The Leidos Skyborg team is looking for a talented individual to intern this summer in our Chantilly, VA office (or virtually, depending on COVID restrictions) to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists to evaluate and incorporate HMI features and components for autonomous aircraft. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world strategic company initiatives. The internship will offer an opportunity for the successful candidate to work with leading Leidos expert practitioners, scientists and team members in computer, data, and behavioral science to develop strategies that build human trust and understanding into our autonomous systems. Applicant should be available in May 2021.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team of Leidos computer/data/behaviors scientists to evaluate and incorporate HMI features and components for autonomous aircraft.

  • Tasking by project team as needed.

Basic Qualifications 

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate education in Behavior Science, Human Factors or related field, with at least 2+ years completed. Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

  • Ability to apply principles, theories and concepts of human factors to manned/unmanned teaming situations. 

  • Ability to use critical thinking skills to contribute to solution-development for team problems.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in text.

  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to obtain DoD security clearance- US Citizenship required.

  • Pursuing Graduate degree

  • Desire to continue working with Leidos on a part-time basis during the school year.
