The Leidos Civil Group is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to join the National Airspace System (NAS) Integration Support Contract (NISC) team. The position will provide technical support to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Fuel Storage Tank (FST) National Program Office in areas of storage tank regulatory compliance and operations located in Washington DC. Although the reporting office is in Washington DC, the selected candidate may work from any US location. This position will require 50% travel to various locations throughout the US. Travel is generally Monday through Friday with weekends home and working from home office when not traveling.
Primary Responsibilities
Supports FAA Projects involving propane, diesel, gasoline, and waste oil AST and UST systems, inclusive of all piping and control systems. Performs operational and compliance evaluations of fielded and planned systems in support of FST National Program Office initiatives. Directs implementation of FAA FST modifications. Provides plant engineering recommendations and prepares engineering designs to assure fuel storage systems meet NAS operational standards. Provides subject matter expertise regarding configuration, component selection and placement, and risk mitigation for operation of tank systems. Prepares and maintains documentation supporting system designs, specifications, procedures, drawings and project manuals.
Basic Qualifications
Requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
Typically requires BS and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant work experience at a professional level in the specialized fields related to fuel storage system operations with demonstrated experience in assessments and remedial actions under environmental regulatory requirements or Masters with 6 years of prior relevant experience.
Candidates with varied levels of fuels experience will be considered. Computer literacy is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with FAA fuel delivery systems is desired.
