Our technical software internship allows you the opportunity to be a part of a collaborative team that is helping to solve our customer’s most complex issues. You will work on microservices and data factory development, covering the key topics of software development, data models/infrastructure, synchronization and orchestration, plus AI/ML applied models. Your internship experience will equip you with best-in-class skills for your future professional career directions. You will work with senior project developers, engineers, program managers, and experts to assist with on-going applied research projects, develop one or more practical solutions for microservices data factories (under expert guidance), and apply insights using your coursework and professional skills. Interns may be assigned to more than one project during the summer based the individual’s interests.
Basic Qualifications
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate education in software design, development, or engineering with at least 2+ years completed. Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Demonstrated software engineering experience from previous internship, work experience, coding competitions, or publications
Python or Java language background
Docker, Kubernetes (At least Docker would be required, k8s proficiency would be better)
Messaging protocols (Apache Kafka good, Apache Pulsar better)
Elasticsearch, Kibana (nice to have)
Able to navigate AWS
High levels of creativity and quick problem-solving capabilities
Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to summarize project activities and findings
Preferred Qualifications
gRPC and/or REST (good to have)
Prometheus/Grafana (good to have)
Zeebe background would be great but I’m not sure we’d get that in an intern
Intellectually curious and willing to explore methods and techniques beyond standard school projects and exercises.
Ability to start DoD security clearance processing, if desired (US Citizenship required)
Desire to continue working with Leidos on a part-time basis during the school year
