Leidos Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) is the prime contractor to the National Science Foundation (NSF) in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). Leidos supports the NSF’s Office of Polar Program’s Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics by aligning with their Mission and Vision Statements:
- Vision: Expanding our scientific reach in Antarctica through increased operational and logistical effectiveness.
- Mission: To provide the operational and logistical platform necessary for the U.S. to conduct world-class science in Antarctica and maintain its active and influential presence on the continent.
Leidos ASC operates and maintains over 430 buildings & structures encompassing approximately 900,000 GSF of space year-round, across three geographically remote research stations; McMurdo Station, Palmer Station, and South Pole Station and several deep field sites across Antarctica. Each station or field site supports world class research and the facilities are a critical part of this mission and supports over 1300 people living, working and performing research across Antarctica.
The Field Science Implementation Manager (FIM) will join the Science and Technical Project Services (S&TPS) implementation team within the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The FIM is responsible for the implementation of funded continental based field science events and ensures science goals are supported and aligned within NSF funding guidance and operational support commitments. The FIM will also integrate NSF funded events into the USAP process for providing science support from work centers, utilizing existing processes and tools to track ASC support metrics and monitoring potential support issues that may impact science success.
As a senior leader of S&TPS the FIM position reports to the Leidos ASC Science Implementation Manager.
This is a full time position based in Centennial, Colorado with annual deployments to Antarctica.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Primary ASC implementer for assigned continental (McMurdo and Pole based) field science events to include associated grantee support to facilitate NSF objectives
Coordination of grantee support with ASC planners, project managers, work centers, and the appropriate Area Management teams
Timely identification of science support issues within ASC and NSF in order to facilitate resolution before issues become an impediment to project success
Preparation for science meetings and reviews, management of all continental field science Research Support Plans (RSP) and Science Program Plan documents including attending various meetings in support of those objectives for understating programmatic interdependency.
Work with S&TPS and station area managers to ensure integrated annual field support.
Leading science reviews of field events
Working collaboratively with McMurdo and South Pole S&TPS Implementation managers and workcenters to plan integrated support from station to field deployment.
Primary science interface with Field Area staff and management for coordination of field resources and support
Participates in proposal reviews coordinated by planners and reviews ops notices
Monitoring and tracking support from work centers in the S&TPS SharePoint site to align with funded objectives
Assisting grantees with participant changes, on-ice flights and other transportation and cargo requirements
Monitoring status of science group’s logistical support throughout the season- updates and attends the stoplight meetings as applicable (the stoplight is the ASC tactical working document to track underway science while deployed)
Interacts with National Science Foundation, their sub-contracting agencies, military personnel and other agency officials in a professional and tactful manner.
Will deploy to McMurdo and act as science support lead in rotation with the McMurdo or ASC Implementation Manager
Maintains and actively facilitates a safe and inclusive workplace

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in a science or related field
Minimum 8+ years in polar field science support
Experience leading change efforts and projects and implementing new systems or processes
Must be a US Citizen or green card holder to meet contractual requirements

Demonstrated ability to work independently
Excellent written, oral and virtual communication skills
Ability to execute in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Involvement with support of international programs and remote sites, especially Antarctica
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
Experience in logistical support to include documentation, expediting, and tracking
Experience with field work, science support, or remote logistical support
PMP certification or experience equivalent
PHYSICAL AND / OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Periodic deployment to Antarctica will be required in this position. This position requires successful completion of the National Science Foundation (NSF) physical, dental, and psychological examinations for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.
