Job Description:

Leidos Government Health and Safety Solutions is seeking an experience Lead HPC Architect with experience in architecting, implementing and managing High Performance Computing (HPC) environment and scientific workstations in an hybrid multi cloud infrastructure, contingent upon contract award.

As the Lead HPC Architect, you will be providing cutting edge solutions and forward-thinking ideas for IT and computational science programs that involve regulatory science, bioinformatics, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence/ machine learning, modeling and simulation, data management and high performance computing.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

Provide leadership, management and interpersonal communication skills necessary to successfully inspire, lead, direct and manage a large-scale program team.

Collaborate with Federal executives, engineers, scientists and other contractors to identify, research and recommend emerging advanced scientific research technologies for specific projects and long-term goals

Propose and evolve HPC architectural concepts and features and ensure consistency with strategic plans and commercial vendor roadmaps

Architect, scale and maintain high-performance computing and virtual workstation environments that have high availability, reliability, security, and are compliant with applicable SLA, standards, and controls

Drive the development and implementation of innovation roadmap and strategy, with projected cost savings

Drive continuous service improvement and innovation with the customer and team in

Proactively identify, analyze and mitigate risks and capture opportunities while driving change

Technical and process improvement plans, roadmaps, analysis of alternates for new technology. Present to customer – business and technical stakeholders, develop consensus.

Support the development of business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives

Support staffing actions, including recruitment, supervision, development, evaluation and disciplinary actions

Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.

Required Skills and Experience

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science.
  • 12+ years of work related experience in software development, Machine Learning, and high-performance computing, with GPU and CUDA experience highly desirable.
  • 10+ years with large-scale workloads in life sciences and biomedical research
  • Experience with commonly used services, such as VPC, EC2, S3, Route 53, and RDS, as well as more niche services, such as EC2 Auto Scaling, EFS, and Storage Gateway.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and automation/configuration management to define infrastructure standards for cloud services (AWS, MS Azure, GCP).
  • Experience working with DevSecOps including but not limited to Docker/Containers, Kubernetes and data center deployments.
  • Experience developing and deploying HPC applications on a large scale.
  • Deep understanding of management and performance optimization techniques associated with large-scale computing systems
  • Good understanding of scripting languages, such as Python, Bash, or Perl
  • Deep understanding of dense data center design including compute, storage and networking
  • Prior work, and a passion for, automating tasks and building repeatable environments
  • Experience with modern advanced analytics (i.e. deep learning) architecture and frameworks for scientific research
  • Experience with federal high performance computing environments
  • Working knowledge of federal information security and compliance requirements
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic, agile environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written and oral communications skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with management and engineering
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with the scientific communities at FDA, HHS, NIH or CDC
  • Experience with Molecular and fluid dynamics simulations (Amber/Charm and Ansys)
  • Experience with Bayesian statistical analyses using R and/or Python
  • Experience with Genomic analyses (Galaxy and other tools including DNA Nexus and Jupyter Notebooks)
  • Working knowledge of federal information security and compliance requirements
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks, data-heavy applications, C and Python programming, shell scripting, virtualization, cloud services, and Linux.
  • Experience with TerraForm, Ansible, or AWS CDK
  • Experience with Openshift, Kubernetes, Docker, and/or Singularity
  • Experience with SGE, UGE, or Slurm
  • AWS Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator certification
