Leidos Defense Group is seeking a Senior IT Data Engineer in Scott AFB, IL to perform technical work as part of an integrated team of CND SMEs supporting the DoD’s JRSS (Joint Regional Security Stack) operational activities. JRSS is a multi-year, global effort to improve the DoD’s security posture and provide enhanced security capabilities and analytics by centralizing and virtualizing network security into regional stacks rather than locally distributed appliances.

You will leverage your understanding of Kafka, modern data architectures, and Data Streaming to support the operations, maintenance, ongoing performance enhancement, and automation of enterprise level solutions for our DoD customers. You will support performance monitoring, systems upgrades, integration, and develop associated documentation.  You will also provide tier 2 support for troubleshooting and remediating issues on fielded systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Data Ingest pipeline

  • Monitor throughput and capacity of Kafka Connect

  • Enrich data feeds with derived metadata

  • Route incoming data feeds into topic topology

  • Support the addition of new data sources

  • Support changes to and maintenance of schemas

  • Implement any data reduction strategies such as duplicate event aggregation

  • Maintain Schema Registry

  • Work with mission partners to leverage schemas and data

  • Maintain connectors for non-standard data sources

  • Manage Topics

  • Enforce naming conventions

  • Optimize and manage partitions

  • Handle partition balancing

  • Support the development and implementation of automation

  • Support Ansible deployment of Confluent components

  • Support Ansible deployment of replication configuration

  • Manage Ansible for operations (upgrades, scaling, etc.)

  • Maintain User Defined Functions (UDF) to support real time streaming data processing & analytics in KSQL

  • Build, optimize, and maintain KStreams processing jobs

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/combined education, with 8+ years of experience; or 6+ years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree.  Specific experience, education and training may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Working knowledge of Kafka or other stream-processing

  • Experience with RedHat Linux

  • Experience with Ansible

  • Experience with data architectures and data streaming

  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance. In addition, you must be able to successfully obtain up to Top Secret based on requirements from the customer and program.

  • DoD 8570 IATII certification prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise level architecture operations and maintenance

  • Experience with container technologies

  • Experience with multiple scripting/programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, etc.)

  • Good Debugging Skills and troubleshooting skills

  • Good written and oral communication skills
