Job Description:

The Defense Group of Leidos has an opening for a Chief Engineer to work on customer site supporting the Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System, Identification Friend or Foe, Mark XII/Mark XIIA, Systems (AIMS) Program Office. The Chief Engineer will perform as a Senior Test Engineer/Electrical Engineer, and will lead a team of Test Engineers and Analysts, be a key interface to Project Managers, functional leaders, subcontractors, and support personnel, and will advise Government leadership to influence solution design, process and/or approaches.

Primary Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer will analyze, test, and assess Mark XIIB equipment and platforms; Conduct the engineering analysis of the Mark XIIB component integration, interface, and testing; Perform technical and mission analyses of tactical communication networks, Mark XIIB systems, and exploration of technologies to complement or supplement identification of friendly forces; Develop, modify, and update systems engineering technical inputs and formal briefs; and Conduct an annual STI relevance assessment and gap analysis.

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and independently performs a wide variety of complicated tasks.  Evaluate components and processes, Determine design approaches and parameters, Analyze equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluate results

  • Organizes, directs and coordinates the planning and production of all project activities.

  • Ensures quality products and services are delivered.

  • Contributes to program efforts in several areas, including cost management/avoidance, schedule estimation and tracking, contract performance management, risk management, requirements analysis, and quality assurance activities.

  • Utilizes communication skills to direct the skilled technical resources and report on the technical progress, issues, and problem areas, and communicates and coordinates the resolution of all project related problems to the appropriate Government lead.

  • Directs multiple contractor and subcontractor teams through to project completion.

Basic Qualifications

  • Possess the necessary training, qualifications, experience, and clearances to accomplish all tasks identified above

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and 12 – 15 years of total experience

  • Minimum 12 years of IFF, Mark XIIB System (AIMS) related experience; demonstrates in-depth understanding of technical principles, theories, concepts

  • U.S. citizen

  • Active Secret security clearance

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to communicate with internal team members across multiple areas and client team members. Ability to influence project/team leaders regarding solution design, process and/or approaches. Ability to communicate with executive leadership (internally or client) regarding matters of significant importance to the organization/project. 

  • Experience managing a team of Engineers and projects.
