Job Description:

The Leidos Health Group’s CTO organization is seeking enterprising and creative engineers for a new Capabilities Development Team to spur the creation of innovations and solutions to positively impact the health and safety of people throughout the world.

Position Summary:
This position has the responsibility for executing a variety of projects from corporate IR&D efforts to short term technical investment initiatives designed to meet the needs of our civil health customers.  We are looking for someone with a range of skills and experience ranging from software development to infrastructure modernization.  The successful candidate will be able to architect a conceptual approach to a problem, design specific solutions, build those solutions, test them, and then improve upon them.  They will interact with vendors and industry partners to research new technologies and determine how to leverage them to increase Leidos’ capabilities.  This role involves engaging with our new business capture efforts to support sharing results of the projects with our customers and finding ways to incorporate the results into winning approaches.  The range of projects we are considering start from application modernization techniques to developing AI/ML capabilities.  The expectation is that team this person is to join will deliver innovative and differentiated technical capabilities that positively impact our ability to help our customers meet their health focused missions.


Primary Responsibilities:
•Research and develop technical solutions
•Innovate and engineer new capabilities
•Execute projects to established charters
•Create and manage development and test environments
•Engage industry partners and vendors to learn about their products and solutions and to gain their assistance in the technical projects
•Develop basic requirements, designs, and testing methods to develop and evaluate new capabilities
•Serve as team members for selected Health research and development projects
•Contribute to new business capture planning efforts
•Provide inputs to, author, or assess white papers or proposals intended for delivery to our customers


Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelors’ degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6-10 years of prior relevant experience.  Industry certifications will be considered in augmenting years of experience.
•Demonstrable experience and skills (at least 4 years) in three of the following areas: Networking, System Development, Systems Engineering, Software or Application Development, Hardware Engineering, System Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Agile Development, and Life Sciences
•Strong communication skills (writing, speaking, and listening)
•Experience in writing for white papers, RFI responses, and/or system design documents
•Experience in running trade studies, product evaluations, or research projects
•Experience in customer and partner engagements
•Experience writing and analyzing software code
•Experience in IT infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience developing solutions involving data sciences, artificial intelligence, NLP, or RPA
•Experience in developing solutions for application modernization, particularly from mainframes
•Experience creating and managing cloud environments
•Experience developing or managing DevOps solutions that rely on cloud-based infrastructure
•Direct experience working with any of the following customers: HHS, CMS, FDA, CDC, NIH, or SSA
•Experience in workflow automation
•Experience in infrastructure modernization
