Job Description:

Leidos Defense Group Modeling Simulation & Training Division has several openings for Mechanical Engineers (all levels) for a new program in Huntsville, Al.  This position will support a new program award in support of the US Army providing full life cycle M&S and Live / Virtual / Constructive Training engineering development and sustainment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment
  • Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems
  • Contribute to the development of sections of Mechanical engineering documentation such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements specifications, and Interface Control Documents
  • Manage Mechanical system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems that are compatible with the defined system architecture(s) – Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), Service-oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Assist with the development of Mechanical system requirements, functional requirements, and allocation of the same to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components
  • Assist in resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews that require cross-discipline coordination
  • Participate in an Integrated Product Team to design new capabilities based upon evaluation of all necessary development and operational considerations
  • Participate in interface definition, design, and changes to the configuration between affected groups and individuals throughout the life cycle
  • Derive from the system mechanical requirements an understanding of stakeholder needs, functions that may be logically inferred and implied as essential to system effectiveness.
  • Be an active participant in the Technical Directive Proposal process
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members across multiple areas and client team members
  • Resolves highly complex problems using significant application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation
  • Develops solutions that are highly innovated and achieved through research and integration of best practices
  • Has in-depth understanding of technical principles, theories, concepts and their application across a range of programs
  • Requires ability to communicate with executive leadership (internally or client) regarding matters of significant importance to the organization/project
  • Works to convince others to accept area’s view/current practices and agree/accept new concepts practices and approaches

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 - 25+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree, or a PhD. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Active Secret level clearance
  • Experience in Systems Engineering processes and procedures
  • Understanding of standard Change Management process
  • Proficiency in software programs such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project and Outlook
  • Excellent communications skills to interface with customers and peers
  • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple actions at any given time
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Prior experience leading a team through design, implementation and testing phases

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience with multifunctional responsibilities
  • Experience with complex systems development and integration
  • Experience/domain knowledge of requirements, verification and validation
  • Experience supporting DoD, or other Federal customer environments.
