Job Description:

The Leidos Government Health and Safety Solutions Operation currently has an opening for a Program/Project Manager to support Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA.  The successful candidate will serve as the project manager to manage a scientific computing and bioinformatics program providing the services to the scientific community in CDC.

The Project Manager’s typical responsibility includes organizing, directing, and managing all aspects of project execution for a portfolio of scientific computing, bioinformatics, and data analytic solutions including consulting on experimental design and bioinformatics. This includes managing teams supporting: computing infrastructure, full stack development and bioinformatics. In collaboration with other team members, the project manager will provide direction of project activities, manage and maintain interface with customer organization, consult with customer and contractor personnel to formulate and review task plans and deliverables, ensure conformance with program and project task schedules and costs and contractual obligations.

The project manager will establish and provide technical and financial reports to show progress of projects to management and customers, organize and assign responsibilities to subordinates, monitor issue resolution & risk mitigation, oversee the successful completion of all assigned tasks, ensure quality deliverables, and the accomplishment of program mission.

The selected candidate should be prepared to relocate to Atlanta, GA after COVID restrictions are lifted.


A PhD in bioinformatics, or other scientific disciplines (genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, and etc.). Solid technical and scientific knowledge on Bioinformatics and Data Science practice, technology, tools and techniques. Experience managing bioinformatics research projects, providing support and training services to scientific community, and managing contract performance to meet customer expectation.  Comfortable with information technology and able to lead a multi-functional team including System Administrators, Bioinformatics Scientists, Bioinformatics Engineers, Software Developers, Technical Trainers, and Helpdesk. Develop software maintenance and development projects using Scrum or other agile methods.  Required experience documenting and tracking issues and risks, facilitating and leading meetings, and creating appropriate documentation. Experience managing cost, schedule, and performance of projects using both agile and traditional methods. Experience leading multiple teams consisting of both technical and non-technical staff. Experience in serving as a liaison to both internal and external customers. Excellent people, analytical, technical, planning, and organizational skills. Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. Ability to pass a standard background check.

Preferred qualifications include:

Experience with managing a scientific high performance computing environment is strongly preferred.

Experience supporting and managing solution with sensitive clinical and administrative data.

Experience running a scientific core facility.

PMI PMP certification and Agile certification such as PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, SAFe, or similar qualifications A PMP certification

Previous working experience at the CDC or other federal agencies
