Provide programming support with a minimum of supervision in an environment where a COBOL/RPG/SQL system is transitioning to a web-based environment. The primary programming language used for the individual filling this position will be COBOL. Responsibilities include design, coding, and testing along with proper documentation. Must be able to perform in an open communication, information-sharing team environment.
The Senior Software Developer will be responsible for support of the ALMSS program to include:
• Provide development and ongoing software support and issue resolution
• Design, code, test, document, debug and maintain stable programs in a COBOL/RPG/SQL environment
• Participation in project meetings, project planning and project estimating efforts
• Discrepancy report (DIREP) process support: analyze, troubleshoot, and modify software to address issues discovered by stakeholders, logistics analysts, or fellow software application engineers; address any issues discovered via a thorough test of the modified code
Must possess or be able to obtain secret clearance. Must have BS degree and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience, or additional experience in lieu of degree. Candidate must possess knowledge and experience in COBOL and SQL, as well as Application Development experience working within a configuration-controlled environment. Must be able to work with minimal daily direction in a fast-paced, demanding, and fluid environment. Candidate must possess strong problem solving and analytical skills. Candidate must be highly organized with great attention to detail. Exceptional written communication skills and interpersonal skills to frequently interact with all levels of the organization and external customers are essential.
