Leidos program is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support efforts for SMIT; responsible for preparing and maintaining systems, programming and operations documentation, procedures, and methods, including user manuals, reference manuals, etc. SMIT is the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under the Service Management, Integration, and Transport contract, the Leidos team will deliver the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Ultimately, Leidos will support the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts under one enterprise network.
The selected candidate will author, edit, and proof technical documents such as System Manuals, User Guides and other technical and programmatic documentation. He/she will ensure that documents conform to program standards and Data Item Description (DID) requirements, and will work with the engineering team to define the content of the documents. He/she will have primary responsibility for authorship. The selected individual will gather requirements from users/stakeholders and prepare user and program documentation. He/she works closely with technical staff and will be responsible for managing multiple documentation assignments simultaneously.
Oversee the collection and organization of information, and the preparation, editing, and revision of numerous documents required in support of a complex network of computer systems and networks, to include user manuals, training materials, installation guides, proposals, and other reports and deliverables.
Work in concert with multiple technical professions including software developers, system engineers, test engineers, and program staff in capturing data and media to support technical documentation generation.
Edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, and other customer deliverables and documents.
Work closely with program Data Management staff to ensure document configuration management (CM) and version control for all deliverables.
Maintain a current internal documentation library.
Provide or coordinate special documentation services as required.
Act as project leader for large jobs.
Requires a BA degree and 8-12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6-10 years of prior relevant experience.. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree.
US Citizen and DoD Secret Clearance
Excellent writing and editing skills, and knowledge of style guidelines.
At least 5 years of technical writing experience preparing documents, reports, responses, Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs), and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences, including senior management
Experience effectively formatting and editing technical publications and proposals, including writing, editing, and illustrating using the MS Office Suite
Experience working with system engineers, software engineers, and program management to translate technical information into clear, concise documentation to include user documentation and program materials
Must be able to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Must be an independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team, in a fast-moving environment
Excellent editorial discernment and judgment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent attention to detail, good organizational skills, very strong proofreading abilities.
Ability to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines.
Knowledge of grammar and ability to follow style guidelines.

2+ years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects
Experience with Navy/DoD programs, NMCI highly desirable.
