The Leidos Research Support Team is looking for a talented Post-Doctoral researcher to join our team as a Computational Chemist, supporting the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). The researcher will collaborate with nationally recognized researchers and data scientists to develop computational models.
TERM OF COMMITMENT: This research position is intended to be a term position, with varying levels of commitment that are not expected to last longer than 1 year. You will be informed prior to applying what length of commitment is anticipated. Also, those who successfully fill a term position, may be invited to apply for an additional term. Location: Pittsburg, PA
•Provide technical expertise in planning and execution of the technical work scope within projects assigned.
•Stay abreast of current opportunities and research trends within the knowledge domain and share knowledge across the broader research teams.
•Develop computational models of zeolite structures using both density functional theory (DFT) and model potentials.
•Collaborate with machine learning experts to integrate machine learning and artificial intelligence into computational chemistry related models.
•Conduct literature surveys, data definition, and data collection of appropriate contaminants related to ground water impacts from coal combustion residual leakage and runoff.
•Provide weekly and monthly technical updates to project managers.
•Prepare and submit results of research for publication through the appropriate channels.
•Document and report on any intellectual property developed in the course of work.
Required Education & Experience:
•Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field with less than 2 years of experience postgraduate.
•Mastery of simulation methods: Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations, Density Functional Theory (DFT) and ab initio methods including Coupled Cluster.
•Experience modeling zeolites including evaluating Si/Al ratios, aluminum distribution, and the distribution of extra-framework cations in zeolites.
•Experience using Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package (VASP).
•Advanced skills in Python programming.
•Strong applied mathematical skills.
•Ability to obtain clearance by NETL to access US DOE/NETL Pittsburgh, PA facility.
•Experience applying machine learning to computational chemistry models.
•Expert skills in Python programming.
